The Gilt Rooms was recommended to us by a friend who held an Alice Afternoon tea for her father's 80th birthday. Loving Mersea already, we decided to book an afternoon tea for ourselves. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by extremely friendly staff.
We were seated in the garden (we had our dog with us), which was sheltered, quirky and nicely designed, not overcrowded with tables and chairs as some places can be. Our afternoon tea was beautifully presented and so scrummy. Also included in the price were 2 cocktails - I highly recommend the Storm at Sea!.
We had a fabulous afternoon, walking on the beach with our dog, followed by a fabulous Afternoon Tea in a truly wonderful establishment. I cannot rate it highly enough.
What made it so special?
a) being able to attend with our dog who was welcomed as warmly as we were
b) The staff were warm and friendly
c) Staff attentive without hovering unnecessarily
d) Quality food
Delicious Peter Rabbit themed afternoon tea and especially delicious dairy free afternoon tea! A great selection of sandwiches, cakes and fresh hot scones, we didn’t manage to eat all the cakes so were given goody bags to take home. I highly recommend this as there are not many places I go to that cater for dairy free or only have a substandard equivalence, and this has been by far the best dairy free afternoon tea I’ve had!!
We had a lovely themed afternoon tea here today, to celebrate a birthday. We got to enjoy a room to ourselves, which was so lovely and private. The food was incredible, there was so much choice and they catered for everyone's needs. They were very attentive with offering drinks etc. And had a good balance of providing a great service, but also leaving us to enjoy our afternoon. Fantastic afternoon had by all of us, thanks guys

Really good breakfast that I’ve absolutely enjoy here. The combination of American pan cake with hash brown and eggs are nice.
We went for brunch and didn't need to eat again 'til the evening. Very indulgent scotch pancake stacks. Cakes looked excellent too but sadly didn't have room left to check.
Such a wonderful little place to eat! They allow dogs in the back garden section and were quick to bring out a little bowl of water for the pooch. The food was AMAZING. We went for brunch and had the American Breakfast and a chilli Avocado and eggs with hollandaise sauce. Will be coming back another time for the cakes as they looked amazing too! Super friendly and would 100% recommend 💗 thank you!
I went for lunch with my family here and it was amazing, the food was great and the service was indescribable, the woman who served us was so sweet and friendly. I recommend this place to go it is absolutely beautiful location as well.

Everything about the Gilt room is perfect! Served by a really conscientious friendly young lady. The food was cooked to perfection (American breakfast and eggs Benedict) and the environment was really welcoming. Would highly recommend
Had an amazing time here firstly for an afternoon tea for my hen party - all of the sandwiches and cakes were delicious and home made and Rosie and her team were very attentive. We then had a family Sunday lunch after the wedding and the food and service were fantastic. You won’t be disappointed to book a special occasion here they really do go the extra mile to make their customers happy. Thank you
