This afternoon was my first visit to the tea room with my family and it was a lovely experience. So nice to discover a café/tea room with an extensive gluten free menu ( I would recommend the lemon cake) The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended.
I love everything about this little tea room, especially the fact that they do gluten free very well. The staff are friendly and the decor/ambience is adorable, right up my street! Their gf scones are the best I've had in a looooong time, well worth a visit for these alone but I highly recommend the high tea

Amazing little tea shop with proper 1940s flavour/ ambiance.
Nothing too much trouble from the wonderful staff.
We had the afternoon high tea and two different potable of tea with little brew timers !.
It's the third time we have been to Colechester and although there are plenty of "tea rooms" there can only be one like Jacqueline's.
1940s decor and music. Warm welcome, attentive staff.
Not expensive
I’ve been to Jacqueline’s a couple of times and it’s been lovely! Most recently was my birthday in March and it was the perfect spot for lunch. The staff were very friendly and happy to recommend teas for us to try and the food was delicious! Both times I’ve visited I’ve had the Welsh Rarebit and soup and it was amazing. Also had a gorgeous slice of lemon and ginger cake which is now one of my favourites! Will definitely be booking an afternoon tea there soon as well
Had the most amazing gluten free sandwich and warm gluten free cream tea!I would definitely recommend this beautiful tea room.Fantastic service and very helpful. I can't wait to visit again soon!
What a wonderful discovery! Brilliant gluten free menu that’s needs shouting about - lemon drizzle cake is amazing. Highly recommend that you give it a try
I had my first visit yesterday with my 3 daughters for afternoon tea. We all love afternoon tea and have had it in multiple places. This was the best afternoon tea we've had. Everything was perfect, fresh and delicious food and lovely teas and brilliant service. Also perfect for one of my daughters who is gluten intolerant, with the extensive gluten free cake range and lovely bread. Will definitely be going back.
This is a lovely old fashioned tea room. The food is great and lots of flavoured tea to choose from. I really recommend you try it! I have been twice and will go again! The service is great too.
We have popped in for afternoon tea a few times and it's really lovely, 1940s theme with food in the same style. My wife's friends booked her baby shower here in the function space upstairs last week and the staff were wonderful, everyone had a lovely time, would highly recommend.

My favourite place in Colchester...
Amazing infusions, wonderful atmosphere, the food is the best, and you can really tell the passion that Neil and Jacqueline have for the place.
After going to Jacqueline's, tea will never again be the same.
Excellent service, made welcome as soon as we entered. Chose lovely rose petal tea that tasted like Turkish delight. Welsh rarebit and scones with jam and cream. Highly recommend a visit.
Lovely little tea room , took my Mum in there for lunch . Wonderfully 40’s theme, incredible selection of teas . Our egg mayo sandwiches hit the spot . Very friendly service . Only slight snag was the upstairs toilet , fortunately my elderly mother didn’t need to use it . But I couldn’t mark down for that . Very special for us as Mum hasn’t been out like that for a long time so it was a real treat . Thank you
Things were looking pretty grim on Thursday the 15th of February before we met Neil and Jaqueline...
My brother was visiting from the US and we had to complete his British experience with a cream tea before he returned home the next day.
We walked through the door at 20 minutes to 5 after being turned away from two other tearooms in Colchester. One had closed early and the other promised to kick us out at 5 whether or not we were finished with our tea and scones...
Jaqueline assured us they would not kick us to the curb.
Not only were we treated politely...
The tea was lovely, the scones with clotted cream delicious and the conversation was genuinely pleasant!
Also impressive was the range of teas available (assam for me... darjeeling for my wife) and the comfy and cozy atmosphere.
No need to ever visit the tearooms from which we were shooed away... we found our place in Colchester.
Thanks, Neil and Jaqueline!
An absolute little gem just where you wouldn't expect??? Fantastic service served in a unique homely atmosphere by extremely friendly owners. Only negative - It's a 3.5 hour drive from Bristol??? Cannot recommend strongly enough
Wonderful cream tea x friendly service x totally recommend x if ya ever in the area you have so got to visit x
We visited the tea rooms today in celebration of my Mum's 65th Birthday and had the high tea. It was delicious!!! The food was amazing and very well presented. Mum had gluten free and she loved it. Jacqueline & Neil were very hospitable and as for the tea.....just lovely. Thank you for making her day special. Will definitely be back!!! X
As you walk through the doors you step back in time, to a bygone era. This is a true tea room with countless varieties of tea. The Welsh rarebit is amazing, nice thick slices of cheese on stunning granary bread.
If you are in Colchester a visit here is worth the experience
Amazing afternoon tea for two. Couple are so friendly and welcoming. A huge selection of delicious teas ( ended up leaving with a selection of teas as well :) ). Sandwiches, scones and cakes were all delicious. Also love the vintage decor and style. Highly recommended - can't wait to visit again
A really lovely tea place. The staff are so kind and helpful and the restaurant is such a calm place to just relax in. The tea is also so great for the price; the variety is amazing too and there's something for everyone. My favorite so far has been their fruit teas like Citrus Zing (pictured). Definitely check this one out if you want to relax while in town.
This is a cosy place. Pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. The decorations are very vintage. They specialise in teas but also offer coffee, such as espresso and hot chocolate. My coffee was really nice. We didn't try the cakes or the savouries but they looked nice. The staff are friendly, efficient and smiley. It really is worth a visit.
Wonderful classic atmosphere. The biggest range of teas I’ve seen. Instantly welcomed and such a warm vibe. Beautiful tea and food. Breakfast was huge. Perfectly priced.
Beautiful unique tearoom x lovely food great brew n ambiance as sweet as the staff x
Really good selection of teas, black, green, herbal and specialist. Lovely cakes. Friendly, cosy tearoom with a vintage flair.
Absolutely love it! Great experience and absolutely incredible food! (We had afternoon tea) The staff were lovely and we enjoyed the huge selection of loose leaf teas! We have even bought some small bags to try at home. Lovely decor and overall 5 stars. Absolutely recommend.
I went in there just by the off chance and was instantly welcomed.
I had the choice of a fabulous selection of tea and some food
I chose soup (tomato) and a tea for a quick lunch.
Very well presented and was very tasty and good portion size.
The customer service was amazing 👏 thank you!
What a wonderful find. The tea selection was fantastic and the food some of the best I have eaten. The only issue is the furnishings are very old which let the place down a little bit. For some reason they have allowed a customer to park there bike in the shop, which appears to have been left behind. So in summary a visit to IKEA is all that is required to make thing premise perfect
I love this place. I love tea and cake and boy oh boy do they do it well here. The tea is Fantastic - we especially like their own blend smoking earl (grey) and tranquillity tea and my son always makes a beeline for their bacon sandwiches! We had my daughter's 9 year old birthday party here with 14 girls and they absolutely loved it - tasting teas and eating afternoon tea. I took my mum here for mothers day too and she loved the old fashioned styling of the place - which is just right - not over the top at all. I would totally recommend a visit - as I do too, as often as i possibly can! 😀
