This pub is an absolute gem (& happens to be my local!). Jon & Katie manage it brilliantly - hands-on with an eye on everything, the staff say hi as you walk through the door, the interior is up-to-date but cosy & relaxed with a huge log fire on cold days, & the food is AWESOME! Seriously, from the home-made bar 'nibbles' that vary regularly to the monthly 'food theme' nights (book early!) just about everything is made on site using high quality ingredients. Portion sizes are generous but you can ask for a half portion of most things - ask if it's important! Variety is always wide making your biggest dilemma choosing what to have! Dogs are always welcome & don't tell them but there's a jar of bickies on the bar. Children are welcome if they're well behaved (ok, I added that last bit). There's always a range of guest beers plus a well-stocked gin shelf. And upstairs is a heavenly lounge with help-yourself tea, coffee & local cakes & big squishy sofas with a pile of magazines, shelves of books to bring-&-borrow & even local cards & craft items. Hours vary between seasons & can vary by week so check on Facebook & bookings are always advisable on weekends. I can't say any more - since I moved to the village I've barely been anywhere else & only at someone else's request, there honestly isn't a thing I'd change! I hate to share it really - but I want it to be successful & stay open!

A pub with local and contemporary character - in a beautiful village with a caring community. Traditional Sunday lunch could not have been better (half portion photographed - full had double meat and delicious roast potatoes) - congrats to the team!

Popped in after a walk in the lakes and they managed to squeeze us in on a table. The service was spot on, never without food or a drink. The Sunday roast was great, we had lamb and the Yorkshire pudding was lovely. The sticky toffee pudding was really rich and tasty, more than enough to share. Would definitely return. Very reasonably priced.

Would highly recommend. Lovely decor, friendly staff, great menu with vegetarian and gluten-free options, super tasty food and big portions. The jug of custard to accompany our crumble was the perfect end to the evening. Family friendly, and really nice atmosphere. Can't imagine you'd find a better pub in the Cumbria to enjoy an evening in.

We went as a group of 10 for dinner last night. It was a great experience. The menu provided lots of choice and the food was very good indeed, as was the service. The Butcher's arms is a nice pub in a nice area. The staff were excellent. I will definitely go again. I wish we had it in our village!

Popped in for dinner here with family that lived in the area. Was busy, but this didn't affect the friendly atmosphere or the excellent pace at which the staff kept the drinks and food flowing. Food was excellent, everyone was very pleased with their meal.Staff were very attentive, wonderfully patient with our kids and provided a colouring book and pens for our daughter. This resulted in her colouring pictures for a couple of the staff which the manager didn't hesitate to pin up on the wall, much to our daughters enjoyment. Superb experience all round. Will be going back when I'm next down!

I can't believe this is pub grub, it's the best I've ever had! The food is like you're being served in a popular restaurant. I had the plant burger, oh my! It's the best plant burger I've ever had! My partner thoroughly enjoyed his meat burger too. The food and service here is definitely worth raving about.

Great place! The food and service were very good. The atmosphere was fantastic also. The steak was incredible a really thick piece that was cooked exactly how I like it. Highly recommend!
