Popped in yesterday after visiting the cinema. bar man greeted us i ordered the beef n ale pie i was very disappointed at the fact that the gravy was put in the plate first then the pie and mash .it left me no choice in how much gravy i wanted i stopped eating it also nobody ask how the food was. I did tell the man that cleared the table he was very polite and said he would tell the chef apart from that its a lovely pub been popping in for over 20 years

First time visit and had Sunday lunch. We really enjoyed our meal , thick proper gravy , roast parsnips , Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese . 2 different meats to choose .We would have liked more veggies. But overall we loved it and will definitely return.

I’d decided to travel to my old home town of Darlington. A place that I spent most of my years growing up and having some great memories. Tbh, I don’t remember a lot about the pubs and restaurants from my past visits there but this pub definitely deserved a mention. It also deserves a revisit in the New Year. I’d called in the previous day with my friend to have a sit-off and a cheeky drink. The outside of the restaurant looks stunning and inside was warm and cosy looking and felt very festive but without being OTT. The bar staff seemed very professional, chatty and friendly. That’s just how they are in Darlington, so I’m glad to see that hadn’t changed. I took a seat and decided on some food. I went with “Double Bubble” dirty burger. I had no idea what it was going to look like as there were no photos to get my tastebuds going. I read the ingredients and that was enough 😋. I didn’t have long to wait before my food arrived. Piping hot and served on a wooden board along with a small basket of home cooked chips (absolutely delicious too) and a small side bowl of red cabbage, and other salad items, which was also fresh and tasty. The burger looked impressive on its own. Two beef patties, loads of melted cheese, relish, gherkins and I would assume a brioche bun. Honestly, it was one of the tastiest burgers I’d had in a long time and definitely worth the price. Presentation, taste and quality were excellent. All washed down with a bottle of cold Peroni 😋, it was just a lovely experience. Service from the staff was excellent and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a nice cosy ambience and great tasting food. Great work from everyone to helped to make my first visit a memorable one 🤜🏻❤️🤛🏻

What can I say, it's your Yorkshire pub right in a middle of town. Parmo, Sunday dinner in giant Yorkshire pudding, proper door stop sandwich and everything from the grill. Vegetarian and vegan options available. If you hungry and fill for proper northern grab, it's place for you

It's good and reliable, food is nice but a tad on the expensive side. Usually has some free seats beers selection can be a bit restricting. Didn't allow pre-order for a speedy lunch which kida sucked :/ Edit: changed to a 5* after coming in for dinner today and even though it was busy my Allergy got seen to and had a wonderful meal :)

Fabulous food and service considering it was a very busy time on the day of the 10K race. Lovely varied menu. Will be back to try more!
