The Barrelman

Stopped in here for dinner yesterday evening, largely attracted by it being dog friendly. Most tables were reserved, although people hadn’t yet arrived so it was fairly quiet. Fortunately they were able to get us seated at a small table. Recommend booking in advance! Service was fairly quick. I had salt and chilli chicken wings to start, although to be honest they didn’t really seem to have much salt and chilli flavouring which was a wee bit disappointing. On to the main, I had the steak pie and opted for chips as the side. The steak pie was beautiful with fall apart beef and loads of gravy for dipping the chips in. The chips were big chunky things that were an ideal side for anything with gravy. Put the wings down to a one off and would definitely give them a try next time I’m there.

We were a family group of 10. The staff were very accommodating. We were seated behind the bar where there was not much atmosphere. The food we could see being served looked good. We ordered a variety, and it was mostly enjoyed. The steak pie was not great, the pastry was tough. The beef bao buns looked awesome, however, severely lacked in flavour. This was mentioned to the staff who offered more sauce, which was horrible! As we were celebrating a birthday, the staff were very helpful, allowed us to put up some decorations and helped pesent a cake after the meal.

Always a friendly welcome, nice chatty staff (especially the younger staff) and a good range of drink options. Mac and cheese always good here, my go to but the pizza was also decent having tried it a while back. A bit pricier than your average Dundee pub type offering but always a good place to stop off for a drink and a bite.

Dined on 16th September 2022, first night in Dundee and didn't disappoint! Food was exceptional, perfect size that filled just nicely. Presentation was also great, beautiful! Drinks were lovely too, and all at a very reasonable price! I'm sure we'll be visiting Dundee again in the future, and I will definitely be coming back if this visit alone was anything to go by. Loved it!
