I had my birthday tea here last night with Dan Chapman , we both loved our meals, staff are absolutely great, very welcoming, respectful, helpful, friendly, cosy atmosphere, delicious food...what more can you ask...recommend to everyone, don't miss out on this lovely place! just amazing, best place to eat in Durham by far, ticks all the boxes 5 star... xx
What an amazing meal! We each had the seafood guvec washed down with fabulous turkish delight gin and hibiscus tonic. The staff were absolutely fantastic, efficient, knowledgeable and so welcoming. We live in Newcastle but, we will definitely be making the effort to go back, best meal we’ve had in a long time.
Had the lunch offer, which included starter, main course and a drink. It was a delicious experience. Good size portions, piping hot and full of flavours. Chicken shish was one of the best I eaten so far. The venue is clean and modern and the lady who looked after us was friendly and attentive to our needs.
They had the best lamb shanks I ever tried! Extremely flavourful and cooked to perfection. I could have easily ate several portions myself. That's how good it was. Will come back to try some of their other options as everything else looked really nice as well. The staff was helpful, and the place itself was very spacious and nice, with the only downside being that there are limited toilets and it always had a queue. The wait time for the food could also be improved but otherwise would highly recommend it!
Great location, we had a table with views over the river, which was nice.
Menu is extensive, and the food is delicious. Service is great, albeit we had an extended wait for our table despite booking. However, this wasn't a major issue for us, and we were still served with drinks whilst we waited.
If I'm hyper-critical, we had to return one drink when they tried to pass one wine off for another, which was clearly different...the barman was very apologetic for not mentioning it.
Overall, I'd recommend the place, food is delicious, not too badly priced and the service is excellent.
Loved it. We hadn't booked but got a table no problem. Excellent service, great lunch deal. Food was delicious, hard to find good Turkish restaurants so this was a great find.
Like a prophet, my father asked during our visit to Durham "what are those red letters across the river?" as we had a coffee. His eyes didn't dart off of it as we crossed the Wear in the rain; his mind didn't wander as we spent 4 hours in the morning around Durham's centre.
Turned out to be the family's favourite meal during their 1 week visit to the North East. By FAR. They even raved about the great turkish wine (Ephesus, Red). It's a very Slug & Lettuce / late 20s English Couple soft velvet new-build core vibe, but it actually works!
The lunch menu is really, really worth it. The casserole revealed to me the secret to happiness. The (unpictured) Akarsu Special Kofte was the best part for the others (50-80 years old).
This is a real gem of a restaurant. It's right next to the river with stunning views. The food was delicious. We had cold meze to start and then the meat platter for mains. The portions are huge so make sure you are hungry! The staff are so lovely too. We would definitely visit again.
We each got the 13.95£, 2 starter and 1 main deal. Wish we could finish it all! The Guvec Casserole is good on the stomach and palate.😋
Visiting Durham today and booked a table for 2 at Akarsu and we were so pleased with our choice of venue to eat. The service was first class, and the food was astounding. We gad the hot Mezze platter for 2 to start and the Tavuk Chicken Shish for our main and it was all incredible, I cannot recommend this venue high enough, you must visit 🤗
We ate several times at the old location and since they moved we wanted to give it another go. Good was just as good but they seem to have trimmed down the lunchtime menu and added a couple of new items too. I had the kofte and my wife the halloumi wrap, both were delicious.
Friendly Turkish restaurant with a really lovely vibe just by the bridge. We had a mixed seafood dish - see pic (one I hadn't seen in a Turkish place before) and so gave it a go. Delicious.
