It was the best restaurant we did in Edinburgh! The food was really good, and we really like the ambiance and service! The portions were huge so I would really advice to go being hungry! We took non alcoholic coktails and they were awesome, in particular the Earl Grey one! We recommend this place 100%! Also gluten free options available! Thanks a lot for having us!

We've been to New Chapter about 4-5 times since they opened in 2015, and it never disappoints. This might have been the first time we go for the tasting menu, which we thought offered a very good value. Our highlights were the smoked trout and the North Sea Cod!

New Chapter is just a short walk from the centre of Edinburgh. The food was lovely and there was a good selection of wines on offer. Staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. The tasting menu option was good value and portion sizes were generous. I would definitely recommend and I certainly intend going back.

From start to finish one of the very best meals I’ve ever had. Staff were great and I’m still trying to get over the food. Absolutely incredible. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Wow, go here if you can. Solo traveler from California. One of the best meals of my life. I got the pig cheeks as the main and the combination of flavors was to die for, with the endive and magical sauce. Who is this chef?. Side of greens also incredibly tasty. Cute and charming place and friendly service. Sleek, but casual and unpretentious at the same time. Would go back in a heartbeat. Also, I managed to get a reservation just a few hours before the time on a Friday night. And they didn’t seem particularly busy. Incomprehensible.

Exceptional! From beginning to end, this was an unforgettable experience. They accommodated our service dog, placed us at a cozy table, and the service was PERFECT! Not overbearing, not laissez-faire, but just perfect! Gaspacho was out of this world!
The ingredients were fresh and well prepared. We will come back again!
Sunday lunch was delicious.

Highly recommend. The service, food and cocktails are all amazing. They really helped when one of our party was coeliac. They were very thorough and mindful of the allergy. Must go!!

Our first visit here and certainly won't be our last. The food was magnificent and the service lovely, friendly and caring. The chefs are clearly very talented indeed and we had an amazing dinner. will look forward to going again.

We had an excellent lunch here. Service was prompt and efficient and the menu good value for the quality on offer. We would definitely eat here again.
The dishes were all well presented, with a good portion size and had enjoyable flavours. Have given four out of five as one of the main courses (the sea trout) whilst well cooked was too bland and was a weak point on an otherwise strong menu.
The hake was perfectly cooked and went wonderfully well with the courgette and aubergine.

I loved every bite of it. Innovative and satisfying. Ingredients were complimentary to one another. Portion was just right for a 3-course lunch menu. What I also loved about this restaurant was the "amount" of services they provided, just enough, not too much asking for routine engagement. That gave me space to enjoy the food fully, which was very important to me. That probably accounted to the experience of front-of-house staff to respond to different types of customers and to make them comfortable. A well-deserved five stars.

We came to NC for dinner and we absolutely loved it. The food is delicious I recomend the scallops and the steak. The steak was cooked to perfection! My friends had the lamb main and they loved it as well. Service is great too-very friendly staff, treated us like royalty. Just loved it. I will be back 100%. Thank you to the team there and well done to the chef.

A lunch visit for my wife's birthday. Aga was professional, courteous and friendly. She is a credit to the place. The food was simply wonderful and the chefs had clearly taken a lot of trouble over what was a lunchtime set menu.

We finally made it to New Chapter last night after hearing great things about the restaurant. Boy were we happy we did, the food was amazing, I chose the scotch egg starter, this bore no resemblance to the supermarket picnic food, it was luscious with the egg still soft and surrounded by dots of pea purée, fresh peas and pea shoots, I was in heaven. It was followed by the pork pressa I have had this cut many times but this was beautifully presented with a slow cooked pig cheek and baby turnips, delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly, the other diners were a real bunch, the high ceiling meant that conversation was possible. All in all a winner, we will be back

New Chapter caught my attention after rocketing to the top ten on Trip Advisor mere months after opening in October last year. This and the fact that it's open for my early January birthday made it the perfect place to celebrate getting slightly older.
I went with The Man and his family. The Man is quite used to my tastes by now, and well accustomed to the type of cuisine that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with dismay as his mother scornfully perused the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with The Man's family before, and I know that they do enjoy food, so I consider it a failing of the menu that it isn't accessible. Naming ever flourish and garnish may make the dish appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it's necessary to find a balance between the two.

We begin with starters and I go for venison & sauerkraut pithvier. The venison was under-seasoned and incredibly dry, luckily the sauerkraut brought a little moisture and so rescued the dish overall, but the flavours were quite non distinct other than the garnish of pickled mushrooms which I thoroughly enjoyed.
For the most part we chose a fish dish for our mains, sea trout, smoked mussels, parsley mash and coastal herbs. Where the starter fell down the main picks up again. The dish is rich and creamy, and each individual element adds to the complexity of flavour as a whole without upstaging any other part. The concept is now an old one though, and it would be massively disappointing if it hadn't worked, as its essentially cooking by numbers at this point.

I enjoyed my meal at New Chapter, although I don't agree with it's stellar status amongst the hierarchy of Edinburgh Eateries. It's top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will establish itself at the upper half of the middle tier where it belongs. And that is where it belongs, the dishes may be plated with a Michelin Star in mind, and the venue and supporting media has the clean lines and blank slate look of fine dining, but the execution and the ideas come nowhere close. The team have a long way to go if that is their genuine aspiration. In the end though it was a nice meal, and reasonably priced (for the moment, I wouldn't be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and The Man's mother found something she enjoyed. And that's the most important thing.
