I swore by Pierre Herme's eclectic flavours and Laduree's classic macarons and was convinced that no one could quite beat them. This little patisserie amazed me with their choice and quality (and great value!) macarons. The other patisserie offerings were just as delectable. Shame about the slightly grumpy service we received, perhaps because it was a particularly miserable day and the place was very busy. I'd have given them a 5 otherwise!!

This is one of my favourite places to get macarons in Edinburgh. No where else compares to the price, size and range and originality of their flavours. Particular favourites are their tea ones - matcha and sencha - praline and salted caramel. Their chef is an absolute culinary whizz. They also have a lovely range of larger patisseries which have not yet been tried, but I intend to very soon!

Before patisseries gained popularity in Edinburgh, there was Patisserie Madeleine. It was recommended by a French friend who knew of my love for macarons and I immediately wanted to visit when I heard about the patisserie. It's a small cafe, but their cake and macaron selection are extensive. The macarons are freshly made so between one day and the next, you won't always find the same flavours. You can choose between the more popular mango, chocolate and vanilla flavours or more exotic ones like praline, rose, pistachio and passion fruit. To give you an idea of how much I love their macarons, for my birthday I asked the OH to get me a dozen praline macarons and I pretty much devoured them within 2 days.

Patisserie Madeline is a rather odd little French patisserie in Raeburn. It sells a small selection of sweet pastries, with the French macaroon being the heaviest motif among the dishes. It also has a selection of coffees and teas. Its décor is elegant and feminine in design but has a very Ikea-esq feel to it. It appears to be run by only one lady who both mans the counter and makes the coffees. My friend and I were the only ones who had chosen to sit down but while we were there quite a few people came in to buy desserts to take away. We ordered two coffees and a pastry each. Mine was a raspberry macaroon concoction filled with raspberry cream and fresh whole raspberries which was really quite exquisite. It was delicate and light despite the cream which I was worried might make it too heavy. The coffee was equally good. My main criticism of the cafe it was that the service was quite slow and the lady behind the counter seemed to put a priority on those ordering to take away and didn't make a start on our order until a good 15 minutes of us sitting down had gone by. However, the pastries were delicious and were evidently made on sight. I recommend a takeaway order of any macaroon based pastry.

Gorgeous cosy Pastry shop. We adored the speciality Honey Oat Latte perfect on a rainy day. The pastries were divine, light and airy delicious.

We absolutely loved the desserts from this place. The macaroons were so flavorful and delicious. The passion fruit one was literally a flavor explosion in our mouths. Alex, Toby and Matti inhaled their pastries and couldn’t stop moaning about them. Our dear French expert, Louise, was amazed by their quality. #reviewednesday

In the ever-changing but always interesting coterie of Stockbridge shops, set in the usual Gallic style of such artisan bakery and pop-in, sit-down, you're-in-Paris, often cramped establishments, what we were looking for was here in Raeburn Place, No.278 to be precise,👍"La Barantine." Efficiently operated by at least two girls (perhaps of The Auld Alliance) exuding the vague impression of prim but p.c. trainee head-mistresses demanding customer behaviour adherence to the lockdown-release rules ... Or Else. However, my wife and I were won over by their fare, their manners and their modus operandi. Coffee and Croissants were baked, served and duly first class. For gourmet cake lovers, their selection was lovely, varied and vast. Our bill was both as expected and delivered with charm. 💕 We shall seek to return in summer. I did look up the name and found it baffling but somehow reasonably appropriate: Vis ... No one seems sure what la Barantine means. ... It certainly is the name of an aristocratic family; also some dwelling places in France ... and an asteroid.

La Barantine is a lovely little French cafe situated in the heart of Stockbridge. It boasts top-notch coffee, great service, & a fantastic patisserie selection. Well worth a visit during any visit to Stockbridge

Supercosy place to get some lunch and coffee. The sandwiches are incredibly good, and the staff is very friendly. 100% recommended! They also have books on the shelves so you can take one and leave another in its place 😉🧡
