A filling meal for a vegetarian!

Given that haggis is a must-try in Scotland (though to a vegetarian, sounds disgusting!) it was great that the baked potato shop created a veggie version. The regular potatoes are so large that with toppings you can easily split one between two people!

This place offers the baked potato in three size and different fillings ( cold or hot). Everything is vegetarian so non veg lovers might find this place difficult to try. In short you can fill your stomach in approx £5.

I didn't think a baked potato could be so good!

I discovered this cute little cafe in Edinburgh's Old Town as it was near our hostel. Highly recommend it for any fellow backpackers or budget travellers as for around £5, you can get a HUGE lunch! Just choose your portion size and add from one to three fillings and a drink to get a decent meal deal. I chose the "small" portion with one filling and it was still gigantic! Biggest jacket potato I've ever eaten...

All hot and cold fillings are vegetarian, and there are loads of vegan options (including vegan haggis!). I went for the vegetable curry, which was really tasty and had a decent kick to it.

They also serve a range of veggie snacks and cakes including vegan sausage rolls, haggis samosas and tiffin.

There's very limited seating inside so if you get take-away, make sure you find somewhere to sit and dig in to it!

One of my fond memories of living in Edinburgh was eating vegan haggis on baked potatoes from the Baked Potato Shop at the top of Cockburn Street.  It was close to work so it was quite convenient unless the Edinburgh Festival was in full swing and queues out the door.  I was delighted to have an opportunity to go there again this week.

Located on the Cockburn street this is very small place but really interesting choices. The potatoes are baked and they come in small, medium, large and boy they are so huge ,two people can share a medium sized potato. Now coming to fillings -You have cold fillings and hot filings and you have a option of having 3 fillings on the potato. They ask you if you want butter, salt and pepper. It takes Abt 5-10mins and ola your baked potato with your choice of fillings is ready. All the fillings vegetarian which are pretty interesting.
Now the place is very small, only 4 (max)can sit inside and eat.But I wouldn't mind going there to taste other fillings.Really tastes good.

The place's concept is very interesting - all the options are vegetarian. We can choose the small potato, the medium and each one has the option with one portion or even two portions. I choose the small one with hummus and it was very good. I really enjoy the taste of the hummus with the potato. We may also choose hot options (I taste the vegetarian mix and it was very good also).

The best thing - the vegetarian options.
The worst - the space. The interior is very small and a little bit noisy. It is difficult to find a place to sit inside.

This modest and unpretentious takeaway shop, which opened in 1983, is located just off the  Royal Mile  on Cockburn Street.   But for the bright red sign and paint lining the door and windows, you might otherwise miss it entirely. It's not fine dining and it's not meant to be, but what they offer is so good that you'll definitely not want to miss it. Unless you've had a  jacket potato  in the UK, you've not truly experienced all that a potato has to offer.  Ask anyone who can knowledgeably compare a US potato with a UK potato and you'll hear that there is a definite difference.  While I steer clear of potatoes at home, I freely admit to overindulging once I land on UK soil. The Baked Potato Shop menu When you enter  The Baked Potato Shop , you'll see the menu board at the front of the store.  What you might not see is an employee so unlike what we witnessed, please have patience.  The employee could be downstairs prepping more food or grabbing potatoes and will definitely return in a minute.  No need to get antsy and start yelling because they haven't gone and abandoned the shop entirely.  Fillings are either cold (egg mayo, cheddar cheese, sour cream, cheese and onion) or hot (baked beans, chilli, vegetable curry, or veggie haggis). Go traditional with egg mayo, beans and cheese, or just cheese or try something completely out of the box. In addition to jacket potatoes, you can also find filled rolls, salads, soup, even pizza and cakes (tiffin, flap jack, caramel shortbread, and quinoa bars). Close up of menu board A word of warning, which my husband absolutely refused to listen to and which I will repeat here for anyone who might want to heed my advice.  A "small" potato is what you'll want to go with as a s

Hot Potato!. This wee shop is just off the Royal Mile and provides its customers with baked potatos filled with just about any type of vegetarian filling imaginable. There are even different types of the same filling so if you like spicy and your partner doesn't you can both get just what you like. Unlike so many others this is one of the few shops on the high street where you don't get charged astronomical prices for what you get. Cheap and cheerful for anyone wanting lunch in a very touristy and expensive area of town! The food is tasty and filling, the price is right and you can rest assured that no animals were harmed in the making of your lunch! Only downside, sometimes I really crave tuna sweetcorn...

I have always pooh-poohed the Royal Mile as a tourist trap; a place that in order to buy a coffee, you would need to remortgage your house. However, I was proven wrong when I went down one of the little rabbit warrens just off the Mile and ended up in Bro

Being a big lover of all things meat, I am pleasantly surprised at myself for enjoying the Baked Potato Shop so much. Growing up this used to be the place my mum would love to get her baked potatoes from, and as I grow older I understand why.

The filling choices are expansive, I usually plump for a medium sized baked potato which is unsurprisingly large enough. The fillings change for myself, and such is the expansive list, you can ensure that you never have the same combination twice, with my tip being the vegetarian haggis with cheese or the coleslaw with baked beans.

The location of the Baked Potato Shop, at the top of Cockburn Street and within a few steps of the Royal Mile, ensures that there is always a steady stream of customers passing through the door, despite the principles of the eatery ensuring that meat is never served.

It is a great little place, and highly recommended for a hearty and healthy lunch if you are in the area.

Baked potato place without meat (vegetarian and vegan). Tried three toppings, they were all delicious (haggis, cheese/onion/pineapple and a spinach/bean salad). The potatoes could have been warmer. The place is quite small, ideal for a quick stop. The ladies were lovely.

This place deserves to be bigger!! Just a little sit-in area, luckily I got a seat by the window. Great service with great food. The baked potatoes are very good size, two and half is standard. In the picture - baked beans, grated cheese and avocado salad 😋 And of course being in Scotland, Irn Bru drink.

Lovely place for a tasty vegetarian or vegan baked potato. The portion is quite good, I picked Greek salad as a topping and it was very nice. The price is affordable and worth it. Also, the staff are friendly and welcoming. Very recommended it! They have a some tables to eat in, however, I decided to have it as a take out

Found this little gem after Googling for something to eat. I love jacket potatoes so decided on a visit. It's a small location and we had ours to take away. From the outside it doesn't look the greatest and also inside looks a bit grubby but trust me don't let that fool you. Menu is very clear and the guy is very helpful. The jackets are super huge as your see and very and I mean very filling. Price is very reasonable too. Also don't be put off with the queue as this goes quick. Once we got home and tried these we was blown away with just how good the potatoes tasted and looked. We both had cheese and beans filling and my wife had a bit on salad on top of hers. Both our jackets were a Large size. If your looking for something to eat, try here you won't be disappointed.

✓ All Vegetarian with Vegan Options I was here late afternoon to try the vegan haggis! I had the small with 1 Filling of Vegan Macsween Haggis [£4.99] and loved it. It is a good portion of potato with heaps of the vegan haggis for the price. The vegan haggis had that aged, deep and savoury flavour that I thought was very reminiscent of a proper (non-vegan) haggis (well, the several that I had years ago). The texture was not as similar though, it is grainy – pretty much lentils. Despite that, I really loved it! The vegan haggis was very flavourful and went very well with the baked potato! The potato was well baked – hot and fluffy. The staff that served with was a nice and friendly even though it was quite close to closing. They also offer a good variety of other hot and cold fillings (vegetarian and vegan) from egg mayo, avocado salad & cous cous to curried rice, cheese, baked beans. The shop is more of a grab and go with only one table with benches around it in the shop. It looks unassuming and a bit run down, but a good place to grab a hearty hot snack. I do recommend making a trip here to try their lovely Baked potato with vegan Macsween Haggis!

Lovely potatoes, all vegetarian or vegan. Rather pricey, but very friendly and helpful staff. Small shop so not a guarantee you'll be able to sit. Definitely recommend the chili + cheese (although slightly spicy!)

A lovely little vegetarian shop to have our lunch. I brought the large potato macsween haggis. The haggis was a surprisingly tasty addition to the potato. It was a great experience, with good hospitality. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a little bite.

Very much worth the visit. It's affordable, the food is tasty, and you get quite big portions, which is grand. The inside has recently been renovated and there's now more seating options than there was before. The staff are also always super pleasant. Highly recommend 👍.
