Lovely little pub. Bartender David was amazing. He was great with the kids and couldn't fault him for customer service. Meals were proper hearty meals and so yummy. Very reasonable on price. Had some vegetarian options, but not alot. A good selection of Ales. The building is of historical significance as was part of the original tollbooth for passersby coming into Edinburgh.
Love this place!. I visited this restaurant two months ago and ate the neeps and tatties, a fresh salad with salmon, and haggis. The decor of this restaurant is warm and inviting with lots of wood and leather and stone. The building dates back to the 1500s which lends beautifully to the ambiance of the place. Anyone who wants to experience a traditional Scottish pub and restaurant should go!
Lovely pub very close to city centre and station. Great choice of meals including plenty of options for vegetarian diners - including delicious veggie haggis, neeps and tatties. Highly recommended.
I recently dined here with my mate and decided to try their fish and chips, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The fish was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a flavorful batter that complemented the fish beautifully. The chips were also spot-on - golden and crispy. The portion size was generous, and the meal was served piping hot. The ambiance of the pub added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. I highly recommend trying their fish and chips; it's a true treat for your taste buds.
Came for our anniversary meal. The haggis bon bons were lovely but we were a little disappointed with the haggis burger and the chips seemed like they were frozen fries.
The staff were lovely tho & recommended 2 really nice Scottish lagers for us which we really enjoyed.
Loved stopping by this little pub with a good bit of history to the building. The interior feels unique with two floors and an interesting bar itself. Friendly staff.
We had the cranachan here which was delicious and a surprisingly rare dessert to track down.

Very nice, cozy pub with brisk, friendly service. I had the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties for £14.95 which I highly recommend.
With the haggis, I had a pint of Maltsmiths lager. Very tasty and fruity, with a hint of lemon or coriander.
It's just a pity that some dishes were already sold out, although we had reserved weeks in advance for 21 people. Nevertheless, everyone found something on the menu and everyone was satisfied and full.
Stopped in here for drinks and had an extremely enjoyable of an experience talking with the friendly knowledgeable staff about thier whiskys (and sampled a few). Tried a few local beers as well, and they didnt dassapoint either. In a historic building, it has character out the wazoo! It's a must see and experience place just south of the "Royal Mile".
So we walked down, to find the amazing atmospheric little pub which inspired the harry potter hogwarts castle. This Scottish pub is a great visit, we stayed for haggis, neeps and tatties and had tried some different beers and lagers. The staff were very helpful and patient. The food was lovely and the whiskey sauce was delicious 😋. Thank you for making our stay in Edinburgh that little bit more memorable.
An atmospheric pub in the heart of Edinburgh. Food was excellent and a good selection of local beers and whiskies. I had the Stornaway black pudding, served on fried toast with a poached egg, and a steak with haggis on the side. Delicious! Service was excellent.
What a lovely place to have a drink and meal! We came here by chance since we were thirsty and hungry and it looked cute. But we were not disappointed at all! The waiters are super nice and the food we ordered (stereotypical fish and chips but they were my first in the UK and I really wanted to try) was really, really good. It was so incredibly crunchy! I would gladly come back :)
