Lovely pub very close to city centre and station. Great choice of meals including plenty of options for vegetarian diners - including delicious veggie haggis, neeps and tatties. Highly recommended.

Just Outstanding!!! Fantastic little bar located on the Royal Mile, traditional Scottish cuisine, with a great selection of whisky and beer. The chat from the team is second to none though, ask for SteVen (Correct spelling*) as he tells a really REALLY!! great story about a skull. Just a really great guy... makes a good hot chocolate too.

Came for our anniversary meal. The haggis bon bons were lovely but we were a little disappointed with the haggis burger and the chips seemed like they were frozen fries. The staff were lovely tho & recommended 2 really nice Scottish lagers for us which we really enjoyed.

What a lovely place to have a drink and meal! We came here by chance since we were thirsty and hungry and it looked cute. But we were not disappointed at all! The waiters are super nice and the food we ordered (stereotypical fish and chips but they were my first in the UK and I really wanted to try) was really, really good. It was so incredibly crunchy! I would gladly come back :)

I recently dined here with my mate and decided to try their fish and chips, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The fish was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a flavorful batter that complemented the fish beautifully. The chips were also spot-on - golden and crispy. The portion size was generous, and the meal was served piping hot. The ambiance of the pub added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. I highly recommend trying their fish and chips; it's a true treat for your taste buds.

The Tolbooth Tavern, the mere mention of its name invokes an aura of medieval Scottish charm, making you feel like William Wallace might just appear to toast freedom with you. Except he won't. And neither will the ghosts, because they're as real as unicorns and calorie-free deep-fried Mars bars. First off, the building itself is like a time machine to 16th-century Scotland—except with electricity, plumbing, and significantly less plague. You can almost hear the clang of swords and the murmur of clandestine political discussions among the aged stones. Picture this: wall lamps casting an inviting glow, framed pictures telling silent stories of yesteryears, and a bar with enough whiskey to make a Highland cattle sing "Auld Lang Syne." The menu is like a culinary tour of Scotland without the need for Google Maps. Haggis, neeps, and tatties? Check. Fish and chips as authentic as a Scottish loch? Check. Enough whiskey choices to confuse even a seasoned connoisseur? Double check. Service? Imagine if your best mate from college learned impeccable manners, mastered the art of pouring the perfect pint, and decided to cater to your every food and drink whim. Yes, it's that good. One pro tip: make sure to book a table in advance via their website! To sum it up, whether you're a tourist, local, or someone who's just finished a 'hard day's graft,' The Tolbooth Tavern is where you want to be. But not for ghost hunting, because ghosts are like my dieting plans: nonexistent.
