Been here countless times in the past few years and tried just about everything on the menu, never once had a bad experience. The food is always absolutely beautiful and the atmosphere is nice and cosy. Never been served by the same member of staff twice, but everyone that has served me has been extremely polite. The place seems to be very clean, including the customer toilets. Hope to go back soon!

You wouldn’t think you’d find an authentic, Japanese-owned restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh but here it is! Excellent quality and flavours. Wish we had another day for another meal here…but we’ll be back.

Arrived in Edinburgh and fancied Ramen for dinner, came across this place on Google not too far from my hotel. The ramen was pretty good, I'm not sure how the normal portion would have been but I got the extra noodles and i was pretty stuffed! The broth was pretty flavourful and definitely would go back again!

Exceptional, authentic and welcoming. Heavy rain made the neon signs a very inviting prospect on a recommendation from a friend. The service was simple and not interfering. The broth for both types of ramen was the best my partner and I have experienced outside of Japan. We were quiet for a considerable time enjoying the food. Would recommend to anyone and plan to come back anytime we can. Top special!

There was only one person serving, but the service was still good. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely. We will be coming back again

Very authentic place, quite small so I'd recommend booking ahead of time but very worth the visit!

Great atmosphere and tasty food. The broth was not that milky and thick but still flavourful. The noodles were soft but too thin.

We ordered the crispy salmon roll and two ramens( Miso & Tonkotsu). I would say overall it is standard. Not impressive and certainly not bad. With the price I am paying( £45), it can be a go-to if you crave ramen~

Nice and cozy place, great food. I had the Yokohama Ramen and Matcha Crème Brulee. The Ramen broth was very rich and tasty, with good quality toppings. The crème brulee had this touch of matcha, which gave an interesting mildly bitter taste.

Japanese Ramen secretly hides but quite well Known in Rose street which offer quite authentic vibe. Tonkatsu ramen soup is nice for me Takoyaki is also yummy. It’s can be easily full with the limited space so better come early or make a reservation.

The most authentic Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh. The Tonkatsu Ramen was very delicious. The broth was perfect! Sushi was very fresh and tasty as well. Just a friendly reminder to call for booking first before going to the store.

Honestly I would give it more stars if I could. First off, they kindly took us in even though they already started preparing to close. We ordered the curry, beef tataki, ramen, gyoza, fries and spicy tuna temaki. Everything was absolutely delicious. My brother even remarked how this is the best Japanese he has had outside of Japan! Despite it being late, they did ask if we wanted dessert, which given the time we should have declined...but I could not resist trying the fried banana and ice cream dessert! Fantastic. Highly recommend.

Best ramen we’ve ever had. Amazing truly. Big portions and good prices, service was fast and the lady that served us was so friendly. Definitely a must try in Edinburgh.

The food was excellent, really tasty and good size portions. We visited on a Saturday night and it seemed a bit quiet with not much atmosphere, but we were quite early. After being there for half an hour or so it picked up and was quite lovely. The ramen was excellent, and the waitress was very polite. Then we had the banana tempura - and it was AMAZING. Would definitely return - already planning our next trip to take friends back.

Nice tonkotsu ramen and bento boxes. Could be more generous with toppings but for a good value lunch deal, I can't complain. Staff are friendly.

Hakataya is a lovely little hidden gem in the New Town. Even through their menu is small, the food is great and this is the perfect place to enjoy some authentic Japanese food in a cosy wee setting.

Lovely little hidden gem. Friendly staff and the freshest best sushi I had so far in town. Can't wait to go back and try their other dishes.
Also. 10 points for presentation!

Took me a while to track down this little gem but I'm glad I went to the effort.

The gyoza, pork kakuni and rainbow roll were morsels of deliciousness but the main attraction was the ramen! I had the Hell Ramen and blondey had the Yokohama.. both bowls were brimming with noodles had generous slices of pork, half a boiled egg, bamboo and nori sheets.

The yokohama broth had a slight sweetness to it and the hell broth definitely had a kick! I finished the meal with daifuku mochi.. ice cream wrapped in mochi skin.. both the yuzu and coconut flavours were great.

Service was ok, just not intuitive, you pretty much have to ask for everything you want. Also, at £14 for a bowl of ramen, it's slightly too pricey to make it a habit!

Hakataya has hit the ground running, with an offering that is very good in every aspect. I look forward to many future visits.................................
