The food was quite satisfying. I tried the fish and chips as well as the Steak and ale pie, and they were surprisingly good for pre-made fast food options.
The staff at the bar were friendly and accommodating. However, I did notice that the tables weren't as clean as I would have liked; they were a bit sticky, which was a minor downside.
The atmosphere at Platform 5 didn't quite meet my expectations, hence the 3-star rating. It seemed more like a place to watch sports with a lively and noisy environment. If you're looking for a quiet spot to chat, this might not be the ideal choice.
Overall, a decent spot for a quick bite, with good food and service, but it's more suited for sports enthusiasts than those seeking a relaxed dining experience.

UPDATE: I emailed as per their reply to this review and they honoured their promise of providing us with a full refund. To reflect their good will and customer service I have changed my original overall rating of 1 star to 4.
Around 16:00-17:00 Monday, we (as a party of 3) waited over 15 minutes for our drinks to be served (plus an additional 5+ minutes for one who ordered a coffee). Then waited over 45 minutes for our food (1 bbq chicken and 1 sharing platter) to be served. There was no apology given for the delay, only a brief, ‘the plates will be hot.’ Which they were… and hotter than the food that carried them. Not sure as to why the service was so slow, the bar wasn’t empty nor heaving. We probably would’ve left if not having already prepaid via the app. Overall a disappointing experience. Won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend.

A group of us came here to grab a basic dinner. Staff were wonderful however one person's meal had to be asked after and showed up when we're ready to ask for refund and leave.
Food we'd received wasn't great as many of us left ingredients which weren't inspiring and detracted from the dishes

First time visit, sat outside in the sunshine was very busy with a party of German tourists enjoying their beers and coffees, always a good sign if a place is busy. Got a free table ordered a bottle of wine at the bar, friendly welcoming staff. Enjoyed our wine in a luvly seated area with beautiful flowers and plants, a nice relaxing atmosphere, well worth a visit, ideal if like us you are waiting on your train across the road at Haymarket Station, handy location :) :)

Great selection of beers is the first thing I noticed ,having not been in a pub venue for a while ,I went for a pepperoni ice cold lager found an empty seat and enjoyed my beer alone ,this venue could be very busy but there was a second level for eating and drinking, it was just afternoon I was there and I will use it again

Been here twice: for breakfast and to watch a rugby match. Both times the service and atmosphere were great. Food was lovely and when trying to book for a large group with fairly short notice the staff were very accommodating.

Went in for the football at the weekend and had a meal and some drinks. Food was great, highly recommend the bacon and cheese burger and the nachos for sharing. Staff were friendly and happily explained the different beer on offer as there’s a big selection. Overall great day out, will be back!

Great place to be! Shows all the sports you want to watch. I asked to watched the American Football and within seconds the TV infront of me changed channel whilst the rest stayed on the football. Good selection of beers and prices were very reasonable. I will be back this week and have booked a table to get the best view for the game!

Came here for drinks before catching the tram to go on a holiday to Germany. We sat outside and were made to feel extremely welcome, also a great pint of Guinness! Will be back soon before my next holiday!

This is a pretty good bar with a good atmosphere to watch sport, my only gripe is the reserved tables for people arriving 15mins before kickoff
When we wanted to drink for 2 hours before + the game🍺🍺🍺but then would’ve had to leave the table !! Good range of drinks and the food is pretty good too
Sometimes a few more staff or a bit more experienced quicker serving wouldn’t go wrong.

We visited Platform 5 for watch one of the 6 Nations Rugby matches. The restaurant opens into the pub area and after a few flight of stairs, the causal dining area is available. <br/><br/>Since the rugby match was going on, the place was packed! For drinks, they have the usual beers and spirits available and for food, I decided to try one of their 'Curry Favourites' - Chicken Tikka Masala which was served with basmati rice, naan and mango chutney. The dish was heavenly. l did not expect it to be so true to taste. Also, the flavors and level of spiciness was perfectly balanced.<br/><br/>Platform 5 is located bang opposite the Haymarket Station making it an extremely convenient pub to visit. The service was average and the prices for food is good as they have decent offers for two.

It may be a great place to have a few drinks in the evening but the food and service are terrible. I wish I could say it was just one bad experience but unfortunately for me I had breakfast there 3 times and it went from bad to worse.

Located right opposite Haymarket station (and a mile west of princes street/city centre), so ideal for a pint or 2 after office and before your train/bus back home! I go there once every 2 months or so...The place is comfortable, spacious and big screens (think 3) usually showing different sports channels so ideal to catch premier league matches or 6 nations rugby right after office. But, as I said, it has a relatively professional setting given lot of people straight from work talking work related stuff and music as well as beer is rather bland!Certainly not the best option for weekend pub hopping - would stay at royal mile, Grassmarket or George street for that!

Sad to report this isn't the greatest of reviews for platform 5. I've been in before and honestly couldn't fault the food or staff but my two friends and I went in this morning hoping to grab breakfast before they stopped serving. We arrived at 25 to 12 and were told by the staff that we could not order any food at all as the breakfast kitchen was closed and the lunch would not start till 12. Please don't advertise lunch being served till 12 if you stop serving at half 11! And if that is the case don't be rude about it!! Seriously guys, not cool. 3/5 taking into consideration past visits.
