Its been years since i was last here, ended up strolling to a work event for a friend, the place has changed and is pretty awesome, nice staff, comfy chairs, reasonable drink prices, I love sitting outside during this time of year! Cant go wrong, amazing beer garden!
Great place, recommended for families. Drinks were lovely, food beautiful. One staff member was very miserable and commented on a dog nearby that shouldn’t be in the pub beer garden. The dog was no bother. The way she spoke to the people wasn’t the best, she was also very miserable when serving. Apart from that everything was great!
This was my hang out as an Edinburgh student. Used to be the rock and goth pub.... Definitely not that now!
Food is great, beer selection is ok but not spectacular.
Easily the best beer garden in the city, and they have a huge screen to show sporting events, or whatever the Hoi polloi need to watch.
This is a great place to watch sport if the weather is good; large beer garden at the front of the entrance to the pub with a giant TV and nice atmosphere when busy, as it usually is when the weather is good. The beer on offer is decent, with plenty of non-alcoholic drinks available too. The fish and chips is superb. One of the best I’ve had in Edinburgh. The rest of the items on the menu is what you would expect from a pub. Personally didn’t think anything looked as good as the fish and chips but may be wrong here. If you fancy a ‘chippy’ while basking in the sun and watching sport then this is the place for you. Even if sport and sun isn’t your thing, I’d say it’s worth it just for the fish and chips.
Great place. Highly recommended. Atmosphere.
Went here for the free fringe. Went and seen the fantastic five Northern Irish comedians. Great venue and a good selection of beers behind the bar. Tourist prices but can't complain as there was plenty seating and massive outside telly for sport.
Drank here to watch England beat Australia in the world cup semi-final. Too few staff behind the bar making the queue massive, often out of the door. This just meant we drank less as it put you off joining the end and having to wait so long to get served.
But the venue was awesome. Huge screen. Excellent atmosphere.
A really enjoyable evening at the Pear Tree catching up with old friends. The staff were excellent, and there is a nice mix of different age groups and people from all walks of life. As a bonus, they sell gluten free beer by the pint, which is brilliant news for many!
My favourite Edinburgh beer garden. Staff are plentiful, efficient, and friendly.
Didn't have food this time but it's always been excellent in the past.
Was a bit too busy when we went, took a while to get served. Lively atmosphere. Drink choice wasn't to our taste, mainly lagers and cocktails but if that's your flavour then plenty of choice!
Food was good portions, hot and tasty.
I love the Pear Tree and I’ve been coming here since my parents brought me as a baby 😊 it has a beautiful courtyard with ancient pear trees of course and a large outdoor screen to show the football and they also host live music gigs. My brothers band were lucky enough to get a gig during the Edinburgh festival before the Covid pandemic. Lovely inside too and they have a great selection of local and international beers and ciders as well as a great selection of spirits and alcopop type drinks. The food menu looks good although I haven’t eaten here.
