Spoiled for choice in the Newington area, Machina Espresso is definitely my go to for coffee and a quick bite to eat in the area.
A great place to get away from the rain, cosy nooks with cushions in each side of the shop add to the warm atmosphere and I could have stayed there all day. The service was excellent from the minute I walked through the door, being greeted and ask how my day was so far.
I went here for a light breakfast getting a pain au chocolat and a couple of coffees. There were two different blends on that day which I tried after hearing them described so enthusiastically by the barista.
The Guatemala sierra morena coffee was strong, delicious and perfect initial pick me up. Though the Ethiopian blend was my favourite, with a smooth yet rich flavour with fruity sweet notes.
The pain au chocolat reminded me of the patisseries I would get during my time in France and it was hard to not indulge in another.
The decor has contemporary wooden industrial structures with plants featured around the shop.
I'll definitely be returning for lunch if in the area, as the sandwiches that were coming out as I left looked delicious and filling.
I'd fully recommend popping into here for a coffee and a bite to eat if you're in the area.
Hands down the best coffee I’ve tasted in Edinburgh this place is a must if you’re a coffee lover. Amazing and quick service , small cafe but has really great vibe to it.
Great. Coffee. I went there with a friend to grab a cup; he had a cappuccino while I took a latte, and we both agreed our coffee was delicious. Soft yet rich and tasteful, and at the perfect temperature. A good thing, too, is that the mugs aren't too small. Although you are likely to finish your coffee in a few seconds anyways because of how good it is.
This coffee literally put a smile on my face.
If I lived in Edinburgh, this is where I would come for coffee every morning. Such a friendly atmosphere and staff. Coffee was fantastic and they had different single-origin roasts to pick from, which is different from most of the coffee shops I've found so far in the UK. This is definitely a place that both loves coffee and is proud of the cup they can brew.
Comfy welcoming coffee shop with fresh pastries and cakes to go with your kick ass flat white a lovely place to refuel whilst shopping in the area the team working here are friendly and the music is cool.
One of my favourite coffee places. The food is handcrafted and exceptionally fresh. The coffee is great, staff are very friendly. They have restricted WiFi at busy times which is great, the tables aren't all taken by single people with their faces in devices unlike other well known establishments nearby. The food is no more expensive than large chain coffee establishments who sell mass produced prepackaged food and the coffee is quality despite another reviewer referring to it as “Artisan” as if that’s a bad thing.
Delicious coffee and nice cake selection. Nice relaxed environment, not too noisy or pretentious.
I visited both coffee shops to get hold of a proper tamper to fit our home espresso machine. The first checked with the second to see if they had one, so I crossed town to buy it. Success!
The staff in both shops were friendly and took time to be helpful.
We've enjoyed their coffee in the past but didn't have time to have another on these visits.
Great flat white, also sells coffee equipment for enthusiasts and relaxing interior design with a lot of plants. Food is also excellent. Staff is very nice. Students often come here to study.
Great coffee shop in a bit of a random location - Nicholson Street is hardly known for its speciality goods...
Every bit as good as the original Machina Espresso with in my opinion, more interesting interior design. A lot of effort has gone in to the shelving/table assembly and it shows. Had a carrot cake which was nice and a piccolo which was spot on. Would visit again.
