I loved the Chicken sandwich with mozzarella and cranberry sauce. Delicious. fish and chips were pretty good. Tried two desserts that were just okay. But good prices!

Good coffee. A bit overpriced. But good enough location to enjoy. Great options for breakfast or lunch. Nice seating indoors as well as outdoors. Good work by the owners.

Lovely little cafe along Grassmarket. Plenty of breakfast options, which I think were well priced! Plenty of delicious cakes to chose from.

Absolutely delightful retreat from the cold. Their tomato soup was tasty and homemade accompanied by a soft baguette. Fish and chips were very tasty. Love the crispy crumb on the fish. The honey walnut cake is an absolute delight. So light and not too sweet.

We have visited this place daily for morning coffee and breakfast our last two weekly visits to Edinburgh in 2022 and this year. Always friendly, competent and easy going staff. Always happy with food and service. Super cappuccinos and flat whites.

Ideally located in the grass market, staff were lovely and service was efficient. We got our food quickly which was fairly priced and good value. Place was clean and pleasant.

4 star for service because it is on par with elsewhere in Scotland. Good food. Great fresh OJ and coffee. On the Grassmarket square.

This cafe brings back so many memories of when I used to study in Edinburgh.
It's situated right at the corner of grass market where I used to enjoy the summer sunshine while sipping my coffee and admiring the splendid view of the medieval castle.
I had the chance of visiting Edinburgh again and made it a point to end up at Cafe Jacques and order my fav honey cake.
My girlfriend and I went to this cafe for a late breakfast, attracted to its cosy outlook. However, we were highly disappointed. From the misspelled items on the menu, to the grumpy waitress, we felt that this cafe was unacceptably unprofessional.

From the outset, upon trying to make (very) small alterations to the menu for dietary reasons (e.g. substitution of a fried egg for a second potato scone), we were met with a series of huffs from the waitress and general unfriendliness (for example, when she came to bring our cutlery, she dropped it on the table quite rudely).

Furthermore, the food did not deliver. Several items from the menu were not in stock, and various things were absent from our orders (such as the mushrooms from the vegetarian breakfast, the requested milk for the coffee and the presence of an unwelcome fried egg!).

Finally, the quality of the food wasn't brilliant. The vegetarian breakfast, despite some errors, was acceptable and quite nice, but the mozzarella 'melt' was burnt on the exterior, with a highly unmelted/cooked centre (raw mozzarella and tomato).

All in all, we were not satisfied with the meal, and would highly recommend avoiding this cafe and giving your custom to one more deserving.

On a sunny day, their outside seating will ensure they do good business, but there is much better value on offer at other nearby locations
