Having stayed here this weekend I wish we could give 10 stars the glamping pod we stayed in Decs Den was amazing the pods are clean, well laid out and the beds are huge and very comfortable. We also had a log burner hot tub which was heated for us and perfect temperature to just use. Everything here is perfect. I would recommend to everyone. We can't wait to go back. Even with two toddlers we had such a great time and even if you just go for the food the milkshakes are to die for. Well done to everyone who has put in the hard work here, keep going you have built a corner of perfect. Will see you again very soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Just spent 3 nights at this beautiful place. The grounds, pods and showers/toilets are spotless. We were made to feel very welcome and the owners are lovely and very helpful. The views are stunning and some lovely walks. I highly recommend derwent view and will most definitely will be returning.
Must visit place if you need a quite day from the busy schedule. The drive is fine all the way and it's close to Consett if we need to buy anything. We can park the car at two levels, the first one is at the reservoir view & second is accessible to country park. Can go for walks, cycling, running, picnics and chill out. I visited on a Friday afternoon which is absolutely quite with just a couple of cars in the parking but saw none during our walk.
Wow!
I live in Dorset, I visited Pow Hill last week for the first time.
The is agricultural work being done but this place was still very stunning and a great walk.
Highly recommended for all the family any weather and for any outdoorsy occasion.
Lovely rewilded colliery, with diversity of habitat and lots of Birdlip. Lovely quiet place to watch birds (and rodents!) on feeders. Easy parking and good tea van at the weekend 😊
Lovely place to visit and walk around the reservoir or this country park with all the changes of seeing a Red Squirrels. Now in August with great new signage and notice boards around the site . But the car parking getting to look like its for a town not the countryside
I have a feeling this is going to be turned into a paid car park which would spoil my visit there completely. And force me to park elsewhere But for now what a beautiful place
Stunning place. Ample free parking. The most glorious views. Walk round the reservoir is flat, with plenty seating for pit stops. Relaxing day out.
Open access LNR on shore of Derwent Reservoir in NW Durham
Land/Reserve is responsibility of Durham County Council whilst water is a Northumbria Water Reservoir.
Geese and Ducks by the hundred with Waders found in good numbers.
All these plus expected birds, wild flowers, butterflies and other insects
Just a 2 minutes drive from our usually Reservoir parking spot, this is a lovely area. Free and plentiful parking and the choice of woodland or waterside walks. We did both. Roasting hot day so not much wildlife about. Was hoping to see a red squirrel. There are numerous benches to sit and admire the view (or gulp down water like we did today). We noticed the cafe/pub nearby had a garden with picnic tables but it looked mega busy today - will try it out next time. I think we found our new go-to Sunday walk at Pow Hill.
Really nice place to come for a walk. Red squirrels in the area too. Quiet on an evening with a huge car park providing plenty of space. Part of the car park closes at 8pm, although not an issue as a smaller car park remains available. Free parking too! Good access to the reservoir Edge, and plenty of seating available on the footpaths.
Plenty of parking , walks and great views
