Stopped here on a group ride and found this to be a great cycling themed pub/coffee shop.
The decor was fresh and contemporary with cycling memorabilia dotted around.
There is a big coffee and breakfast menu along with a selection of cakes on the bar.
Outside looks great with benches to sit on for large groups along with cycle racks to park your bike on.
We stayed in Box room which was really nice, spotless and quiet, despite being above the bar. Bed cosy and sofabed good too, as was the bed linen.
Breakfast was amazing. Staff all super helpful. Great to see how the old Sir Douglas Haig pub has been revitalised.
Popped in tonight for the first time with a friend on a ride, friendly service. Love the cycling theme and accommodation of cyclists, though plenty of non-cyclists in there too! Only one cask ale, but the Shere Drop was in top condition, the best pint of it I have had in a while. Very pleased to see bar snacks on the menu too, something sorely missed in some of the gastropubs in the area when out for a ride or walk! Good to see a place that was boarded up for years trading again. All the best!
Came with a large group (around 20) after a local cross country race, and was extremely impressed! I've never had such good service in a group this size. We all submitted our pre-orders in advance, and the service was very efficient - we didn't have to wait long at all for our food, and everyone really enjoyed what they had. I personally had the burger, which was delicious (really good chips by the way!), but everything looked fantastic. The staff were very friendly, and the theme, layout and cleanliness of the pub were great. I wish this was my local! I'll definitely be back if I'm ever in Effingham again.
We found this place by luck and absolutely loved it. The ginger waitress was very kind and extremely welcoming to accommodate our baby. The brunch was delicious.
The fact I’m french, love cyclism, and there was actually a race in my Britanny where I’m from originally, all was just bonuses. Highly recommended
Excellent place, food was spot on, staff were friendly and the place had a nice atmosphere. The lack of parking is a drawback if you are driving, but the place is more than worth jumping on your bike as cyclists as you'd expect are well catered for. Will be back in the near future.
I had a coffee and a bacon roll. Prompt service at a fair price in a great venue for cyclists. Bike Hero outside if you got a problem with your bike. Effingham, the gateway to the Surreynees.
Really nice - great quality food and drink, efficient & friendly staff. This is just what the village needed THANK YOU 👍
(still all good after a visit today - even better service and food/drink. Nice work team!)
Booked a table for 4 on a Saturday night but the place was pretty much empty, which was surprising as this is a really nice pub.
They were having problems with the internet and Book A Table has them located in Leatherhead - a search for Effingham gives places in Illinois, USA so they need to improve their marketing!
Staff were attentive all night and the food was a little on the medium size, but the tofu vegi burger, Caeser salad and various starters were good. The fish special arrived cold unfortunately.
Beers (Amstel is one of the choices) and wine were good and average price. The mid priced bottle of rosé was £25. Whole meal cost £140 for 4 plus service.
The pub was designed to appeal to the cycling community so not much car parking but we parked right outside.
Definitely more a lunchtime pub for ambiance but I would recommend it for an evening meal with friends, bring lots of them and create your own ambiance!
Great cycling coffee stop. They’ve refurbished the pub and made it very cycling friendly. Nice coffee and cakes if you want to rest your legs.
