First time at the inn and sooo glad we came across this lovely quaint inn.
It was warm, friendly and fun. Peter was an exceptional host full of character and Ada went above and beyond.
The chef made excellent food, the rooms were clean, spacious and inviting with a really comfy bed.
Would recommend to anyone for food, comfort and hospitality.
Well worth a visit for peace & quiet in a lovely setting. Comfy beds, lovely staff, good value for money evening meals. Within easy driving distance to Grosmont steam railway or to Whitby Town. Good selection of ales.
The food was lovely and it was good value for money. The chef came out to talk to us a couple of times and he was really friendly and helpful - he even told us where he bought the awesome decor! The building itself is beautiful and decorated beautifully.
The two reasons I took a star off were because (1) there was a sign in the women's toilets on the back of the cubicle door that said "smile, you're losing weight" which our whole group found strange and slightly misogynistic (it didn't say that in the men's toilet). And (2) when my vegan friend was having trouble deciding what to order the owner/manageress jokingly said "well maybe you should just eat meat". We laughed it off, but that's not really an appropriate comment and it made my friend a little warey of talking to her again.
Fantastic place to stay. Sadly we were only here for one night but it was excellent. Pete the owner was superb entertainment and had everyone in fits of laughter. Elaine was wonderful as was the barman (sorry didn't get your name) We stayed in Room 1 and it was so comfortable with a great en suite. The food was outstanding and I would definitely recommend the Chicken Parmo.
A place we would absolutely come back to.
We received a lovely warm Yorkshire welcome from the staff, the food was all home cooked and delicious. I'm a vegetarian and there were lots of options for me on the menu. I'd highly recommend this pub if you're in the area 😁
Stayed one night 12th Oct, at the Witching Post, what a wonderful quirky place it is, Pete the landlord very nice man, and his gorgeous dogs Nellie n Molly, made us feel very welcome indeed.
Room 2 was at top of steep stairs, views out of bedroom window looking over village very quiet place, had nice walk thru woods with our 2 dogs.
The room was light and airy, comfortable bed, with a small sofa in a little nook, to read and watch the world go by, albeit very slowly 😁
Dinner was very tasty indeed, the steak I had was cooked perfectly, Molly n Nellie enjoyed a few bits that were left 😁 so did our 2. The staff were really lovely, Elaine behind bar was very chatty, and the young lady who served us our food, sorry I didn't get her name. The banter in the bar was flowing, with lots of very cheesy dad jokes flying about, thoroughly enjoyed the night.
Breakfast this morning was very nice a full English, we will definitely be back but for more than one night's stay next time. Thank you and your staff Peter for making us feel like part of the village.
This gastro pub has excellent food and great atmosphere. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful. Good menu and popular for eating recommend booking a table.
Love coming to this place, very quiet location in Egton, and just generally a great place to stop for a drink and something to eat. Stopped here this morning for some lunch, one of the best full English breakfasts I'd ever had. Locally sourced, fresh ingredients and the owner is such a sound bloke, my wife I had a really nice chat with him while we were eating. 100% recommended stopping here if you're in the area.
We wanted somewhere quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Whitby but close enough to venture in for a day trip.
The Witching Post in was perfect !! We were in Rm 3 which was great, lots of space, and included sofa, 2 tvs, separate bathroom and lots of storage for those staying for longer breaks.
The food was fabulous, we ordered from the evening meal menu besides having breakfast the next day..evening meals were brilliant and the breakfast was the perfect start to the day...even our dog was served sausage for his breakfast.
Pete, the landlord / host / cook / waiter / comedian...is a great bloke, he is down to earth and will do all he can to make sure your stay at the Witching Post Inn is enjoyable ...we will definitely return. Thanks Pete from Dan, Lisa and Lenny
Didn't stop over so can't rate the rooms.
We all loved the home made pub food.
Will call soon to enjoy your beer garden and a Sunday Lunch...
Thank you for a great evening.
