Review Witching Post Inn - Egton

We were staying locally and although our hotel accommodation was lovely, the menu was very limiting for my vegetarian partner, so we ventured out and decided upon a visit to The Witching Post Inn. We received a very warm welcome from the young lady behind the bar who informed us they had a range of vegetarian (and vegan) options. My partner was not disappointed! A whole page of vegetarian meals from which she chose the Moussaka with chips and salad (real chips i might add). I had 'Fords' sausages with mash and onion gravy, plus green beans and carrots. Possibly the tastiest sausages I've ever had! If we'd been staying in the area any longer, this would be our venue of choice but sadly we only found this place on our last nights stay. When we return to North Yorkshire i feel that we will book this Inn for our accommodation as well as the food. Great value all round! Definitely 5 stars!

Just had an evening meal with my wife and daughter and can honestly it was one of the best meals we have ever had. Excellent value for the quality of food, good size portions, friendly service from the staff and a really nice bar with traditional pub feel. Can't comment on rooms as only called in for food. We will definitely be going back when we next in the area, so maybe even stay for a couple of nights.

We had a great 2 night stay at the Witching Post. The room was comfortable and good value for money. Pete was a great host and made us both feel very welcome during our stay., and as others have said….he isn’t shy about cracking a joke or telling the odd story or two. The other bar staff were also very warm and friendly and made us feel very relaxed in our surroundings. We enjoyed 2 cooked breakfasts whilst here, which were both great. Our dog also had his own sausage which was much appreciated. Also had both our evening meals at the pub which were very good. Wonderful home made chips and the Chicken Parmo was excellent. The bar was nice and relaxed, nice open fire and comfortable surroundings. Great location for the moors, Whitby and other costal locations. Overall, great value for money and would definitely return and recommend to others. Many Thanks.

My wife and I, and Samson the dog, have just come back from a 2 night stay. If you are looking for a traditional "pub with rooms", good comfortable rooms, everything clean, and a friendly host, this is the place for you. The menu is varied, and not overpriced for a decent plate of "good grub". We asked before we booked about his "dog policy" and he explained that his dogs rule the roost, so just stick to simple common sense. Samson especially enjoyed the extra sausage that was served with our good standard of Full English Breakfast.

We will be back soon, lovely food and room loved the shower. Would highly recommend this b&b.

Great meal in this cozy, welcoming pub in Egton village. Super-friendly pair running the place and making the food. Theakston's Lightfoot on draught was perfect; steak and ale pie and lasagne were both excellent; the girls' pizzas were good; and the sticky toffee pudding just as you'd want it. Definitely a good place.

We stayed in Glasedale & took a walk into Egton. We have been to 3 local pubs for meals & can say this is by far the best & most friendliest. Warm, welcoming & food absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend a visit if your in the area.

The food was lovely and it was good value for money. The chef came out to talk to us a couple of times and he was really friendly and helpful - he even told us where he bought the awesome decor! The building itself is beautiful and decorated beautifully. The two reasons I took a star off were because (1) there was a sign in the women's toilets on the back of the cubicle door that said "smile, you're losing weight" which our whole group found strange and slightly misogynistic (it didn't say that in the men's toilet). And (2) when my vegan friend was having trouble deciding what to order the owner/manageress jokingly said "well maybe you should just eat meat". We laughed it off, but that's not really an appropriate comment and it made my friend a little warey of talking to her again.

A late impromptu visit for a Sunday lunch uncovered this great Egton asset... Peter and his team made us feel very welcome along with our dog... will certainly revisit for a steak on streak night Friday in the future....

Fantastic place to stay. Sadly we were only here for one night but it was excellent. Pete the owner was superb entertainment and had everyone in fits of laughter. Elaine was wonderful as was the barman (sorry didn't get your name) We stayed in Room 1 and it was so comfortable with a great en suite. The food was outstanding and I would definitely recommend the Chicken Parmo. A place we would absolutely come back to.
