We had dinner in the Bistro while staying at Hotel du Vin Exeter. After a starter platter to share, I had the Navarin of Lamb which was full of flavour, the rice was cooked perfectly, a lighter option than a steak after exploring the city for a day. My partner had the Salmon Fishcake which was super, again full of flavour. The restaurant was busy with a real atmosphere, We were looked after by Jake for the evening and he couldn't have done a better job making sure we had everything we needed and recommending the excellent and theatrical 'Baked Alaska' dessert which we shared. The Bistro is under a modern dome and this makes for a bright airy space. one of the walls is all glass with views over the very well kept garden, the kitchen is semi open too adding to the sense of space. We liked this, but if your after somewhere intimate and romantic, it might not be for you. We felt the meal was excellent value for the quality of the food, the good atmosphere and the excellent service.

We had dinner here last night and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The service was friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. The French Onion soup was especially delightful although everything we ordered was lovely. The meal was also perfectly paced so we didn't feel rushed.

Went for afternoon tea, very pleased with what was served. One of the party is a bit of a fussy eater and wasn’t too keen on the sandwich fillings. The staff went above what we were expecting, with regards to a substitute. Fantastic service! Thank you!

We done the express package as a treat for my sisters 21st, the pool was lovely warm and clean, could of done with a sauna or stream room to enhance the spa experience the treatment was also lovely but when it came to the food it was extremely limited & with the offer we got a two course meal well we didn’t like the choices for the mains so we ask to have something else £1 difference and we would pay the difference which we could but it meant not having our second course (desert) which we was disappointed with all for the sake of a £1 difference change on the main! Service was good although when we went for drinks after the nice bar man got our order wrong & didn’t have what I first asked for. But all in all was good ...

We were given champagne tea for 2 at HDV as a present so we thought we'd book into the hotel and make a weekend of it. We received a friendly welcome on arrival and our "standard" room, whilst being quite small, was well appointed and tastefully decorated and furnished. Breakfast was perhaps the least impressive thing - slowish table service and not an overwhelming choice but it was satisfactory. The champagne tea was outstanding - delicious and one or two quirky twists included! All in all, a most relaxing mini break.

The hotel was lovely. The spa area was disappointing. Our restaurant experience was a shambles. 45 minuets before we got a drink. Food was bland. I cook nicer food at home. We enjoyed this hotel when it was the magdalen chapter. Hotel Du Vin we will not be returning.
