We went to the Wyevale Garden Centre at Fair Oak today and bought tea for two. The jug with the milk in it looked at though it had been buried in the garden and under the rim a grey rough feeling substance which I scraped off with my nail. The tea pot was stained from top to bottom below the spout, the lid and the the rim were completely stained and the cups felt as though they had been pebble dashed and had a dull appearance and distinct brown staining where people had been drinking from them. Also a line around the inside of each cup marked the level of tea which had been poured by the previous users in this dubious establishment. I would think the cups had just been plonked in the sink and swished round a bit and then left on the side to dry. Disgusting they were. When I complained about the cups and asked the young man why they weren't properly cleaned in a dishwasher he said that they had been. When I pointed out to him that with a tissue it was possible to rub the brown stains and remove them, he said as he sauntered away that he doubted it. We decided not to drink the tea out of these unwholesome looking cups and returned it for our money back upon which point the Manageress was called. She was not old enough to be in charge of such a place and would certainly have been unable to instill any discipline into the surly waiting staff. There was no polite apology made by anyone. The couldn't care less attitude of the staff needed to be seen to be believed.
Really high quality coffee and tea, great cafe area and extensive selection in the shop.
Food, which was freshly prepared, was delicious and very good value for money. Shame that the lady who served it at our table behaved as if she wished she were anywhere else. The counter staff were welcoming, cheerful and helpful.
