Sorry forgot to take pictures of the amazing meal we had. Three of us cousins went on a cold Wednesday night. I grew up in Taiwan and the other two are from Shanghai. The nice server put an extension table after we put in a 10 dish order. Soup dumpling, cold duck, triple yellow chicken, lions head, lotus roots, vegetable with tofu skin, fish head soup, eel porridge. Well can’t remember the other two dishes. Just too much. But the lighting and the Chinese style booth seat added to the gastronomic experience. The bill came to half of any manhattan Shanghai restaurant. Have to go back more often. Plus I like the servers there, not pushy.

Very clean establishment tucked away in the back of one of the quieter Flushing malls. I've visited this restaurant twice and each time I've been ushered in warmly by the staff here. I was hesitant to try another soup dumpling restaurant in Flushing because I've grown up always going to Nan Xiang, but since this place is a much closer walk I decided to finally try it out. LYY has affordable pricing for all the great classics. They have hearty portions of soup for under $10 and large bowls of beef noodles for $11. You can definitely get full for $20-25 eating here.
Their soup dumplings were flavorful enough, but I would say the real star was their spicy oil sauce. If it's made in-house, the spicy oil is one of the best I've ever tried in Flushing. You'll need to specifically request it as it's not provided at the table, but they'll happily bring it out on a side dish.
For it's price and portion, it's a great spot to eat without breaking the bank which is getting rarer these days in Flushing.

Amazing food, fast service, new decor. Great place to get Shanghai cuisine. Complimentary soup dumpling if you order $30+. They will also validate your parking fee.

As a native Shanghainese immigrant, this place feels like home. Soup dumplings and Wonton soup tasted authentic with timely wait staff. Many Shanghainese customers frequent this restaurant and that is a telltale sign of food that stays true to it’s roots.

The food is really authentic Shanghai food, it reminds me of the trips back to the mainland when I was a kid. The staff are nice and the decor is nice, everything feels comfortable, not a stuffy restaurant and the food is great. prices are cheaper than a lot of other dumpling places too which is nice in this economy.

My own experience at that dumpling house restaurant was perfect. The soup dumplings were made fresh, the crabmeat noodle w/ scallion sauce tasted awesome, and other portions are truly the best. Hopefully, I can go over there for lunch 1 day

This Lao Yi Yuan is one of the Shanghai Yu Yuan eateries in downtown Flushing
Not sure if it’s under same ownership.
I find their dishes better than the other Yu Yuans.
Not sure if it just opened up. I tried their Shanghai shredded pork gluten dish, Taiwan pork chop noodle soup. Noodles and gluten tasty with good portion of meat inside.
Their old dish, chicken in wine sauce is also tasty with good portion of chicken
Price in general is reasonable nowadays!

I had the wonderful opportunity to dine at Lao Yu Yuan Dumpling House, and it proved to be an enchanting culinary adventure. This establishment takes pride in its diverse selection of dumplings and Chinese delicacies, and I had the pleasure of sampling some of their renowned specialties.
To start, I ordered the Fried Chinese chive box, and while it wasn't my personal favorite. The chive filling was tasty, and the crispy exterior added a satisfying crunch. It might not have been my top pick, but it was still a delicious and well-prepared appetizer. (Cost $5)
Next up were the mixed soup dumplings, and they were definitely a highlight of the meal. The delicate dumpling wrappers held a flavorful and savory broth along with a burst of tender meat or vegetables. (Cost $13)
The Pan fried beef dumplings were another standout item. The slightly crispy bottom contrasted beautifully with the juicy and flavorful beef filling. (Cost $9)
I was truly impressed by the Shanghai pan fried udon at Lao Yu Yuan Dumpling House. The portion size was generous, and the combination of perfectly cooked udon noodles, flavorful sauce, and complementary ingredients created a satisfying and delightful dish. (Cost $11)
The staff at Lao Yu Yuan Dumpling House were friendly and accommodating, providing attentive service throughout my visit. The cozy ambiance, with its touch of Chinese aesthetics, added to the authentic dining experience. While the Fried Chinese chive box wasn't my favorite, the mixed soup dumplings, Pan fried beef dumplings, and Shanghai pan fried udon were outstanding. The portion size was generous, and the menu offered great value for the price. If you're looking for delicious dumplings and authentic Chinese cuisine at an affordable price, Lao Yu Yuan Dumpling House is a must-visit.

I have been wanting to leave a review for this restaurant many times, but I keep on forgetting. No matter how many times I have eaten here, (3 times already!!!) I haven't been disappointed.
The food is fresh and tasty, and comes in reasonable portions with the prices. There are so many dumpling and side dish options, as well as variety of dishes from their noodle and rice categories. On top of that, the restaurant design is very eye catching, showcasing chinese art and architecture, with plenty of seating arrangements. The restaurant is great for those who want to eat authentic Chinese, specifically Shanghainese food, great for bringing family and friends.
I definitely would recommend those who are interested to go give this place a try.

Great spot, we couldn't decide which soup dumpling to get and was pleasantly surprised that they have a mix of 6 option (more places should offer this).
We ordered two mixed and compared notes, a mini tasting! Overall solid from skin, filling and soup. you have to try the truffle one!
Oh the best part, we got a complimentary order of regular soup dumpling!!! 😮 Coming back for sure.
