Incredible local food, including lots of locally caught seafood, and lovely views across the harbour.
Came for lunch so it wasn't too busy, and service was excellent. I ordered the trout with a side of creamy mash and it couldn't have been cooked better! Absolutely delicious, even the mash is to die for!
Be sure to book ahead as it can be difficult to get a table, and check the menu for prices too if you're on a budget as it can get expensive quickly.

An absolutely delightful solo lunch, tasty food, perfect service.
I keep on talking about this place, the atmosphere was great, nice views…one of my favourite fish restaurants out of London!
You won’t be disappointed!

Another super dinner. Hosted clients. They loved it, we loved it. Sun was just going down, tide was out, beautiful evening. 9 of us sat down for dinner. Food was excellent and service was tip top, the waiters knew everything even what the art in the harbour was. We enjoyed the Gusbourne Bubbles and some lovely french wines. My thanks to all of the team that made it a night to remember.

Great location overlooking the small harbour. The food was very good, we went for the Sunday roast, which sounds boring but it was perfect. Parking can be a problem, and we would advise booking ahead.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Some reviews have been a little negative but we enjoyed our experience and will return.

We had booked Saturday dinner and also an overnight stay in one of the rooms. The room check in was quick and room all positive,. Food was delicious as was the ambience and location. We ordered wine unfortunately the wrong bottle was brought this was queried but changed quickly. When paying the bill 4 drinks were on the receipt we had not had, unfortunately we felt questioned in regards to this and asked if we had been on the balcony previously to being seated....we had not. The correct bill was finally brought and yes these things do happen but did reduce my rating only due to how we were made to feel. Brekkie was superb though.

The food was divine as usual. Haddock fishcake starter was bigger than needed. Hubby chose scallops which were succulent. My husband and I shared the sea bream, which was served whole but deboned. So tasty.
Dessert was the chocolate delice, blackcurrant sorbet and vanilla cream. It was a triumph of bitter richness. Truly a taste sensation. Bill £150 but money well spent.

The food is simply amazing!
The staff very professional and kind.
Inside the whole length of the restaurant is in glass and you can dine (at lunch) looking the tide grow inside the bay. Fantastic!
I came back and I can confirm again the great experience. The food delicious and amazing service, the staff always smiling and attentive.

Excellent modern British food with a seafood focus. The dining room enjoys stellar harbour views, and the food is very good indeed. Prices are reasonable given the quality and service was excellent. Well worth visiting.

Lovely food, *very* lovely Sicilian white wine. The stand-out thing for me was the politeness and efficiency of the waitresses - I kept saying to myself "what have I done to deserve this?"

Great restaurant. Food was delicious. Caring and attentive staff. Had breakfast too as we were staying in one of their rooms. We had a delicious English breakfast. Room was nice, although the bathroom put it down. Really small. When booking I paid an extra that said to be for room sea view and bathtub... which was obviously missing because of the inexisting space for it in the room.

This is a review for the restaurant- We sat on the upper floor with a view overlooking the harbour. We had Barbeque menus - scallops, prawn and buratta salad with grilled veggie. Didn’t expect much given the prime location of the restaurant, however the foods pleasantly suprised me! Scallops particularly stood out, large in size, perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. Really nice grilled prawns as well. All dishes came with a generous amount of butter. Portion could have been bigger (we found it more of a tapas portions, would recommend order 2 dishes per person). Service a tad slow on the busy sunny day weekend, however overall kind staffs. Would recommend whoever visits Folkestone.

My husband and I came to stay here in April for the first night of our honeymoon based on finding it on the Michelin Guide. The service from the start was lovely, the man checking us into the room was very nice and showed us all the way to our door. The room was very comfortable with a lovely shower room. The rooms were quaint but very comfy beds and a nice set up. Dinner was spectacular, with some of the best cooked sea bass I've had. Cocktails are a must - we recommend the Once Upon a Tide. Breakfast was also great with delicious smoked salmon avocado toast which was included with the room price. Folkstone itself was a bit dreary with lots of closed shops and sad vibes but the restaurant and rooms was a hidden gem with a beautiful view.

Had Sunday lunch and stayed in one of the rooms with breakfast. Food was excellent. Staff were lovely and good service. Great view over the harbour. Rooms were small but cosy and to a good standard. Recommend both the food and as a place to stay

Had a date night with my boyfriend and was very much looking forward to it. We both love seafood and we were not disappointed! The staff and service was very good and some of the staff waa very attentive. The seafood platter we shared was amazing. A lot of cockles but all the seafood was good quality. Maybe a bit more lemon and maybe mayonnaise. Definately a treat. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go again! More wine from SA would be great.

We had an amazing anniversary dinner at Rocksalt. From the moment we walked in the door they made us feel welcome. We had a great table by the window with an excellent view of the harbour. The service was impeccable and the food, we had the seafood platter for main and it was absolutely fantastic, so fresh!! We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for making our anniversary so special.

Great service and wonderful food. Wish I could have tried everything on the menu! I was brought here for a birthday meal and loved the complementary lemon meringue with a candle. We’ll be back for lunch so we get to see the amazing view.

Had a wonderful Saturday evening celebrating my 40th birthday with a bunch of friends. Sat on the terrace, amazing views, the food and wine was amazing. Totally recommend it. Was awesome! Everybody even sang me happy birthday! Yay.

We were given a great table with view of the harbour. Food, cocktails & service was all 1st class. We were surprised with a complimentary dessert as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Would definitely recommend!

So, all the reviews are about the restaurant but, we stayed in Kittens which is one of their 4 rooms they have just around the corner.
Positioned above the Smokehouse in the middle of the harbour buildings, these individually styled rooms are a little gem.
‘Kittens’ (each room named after local fishermen) has 2 bedrooms and a walk in shower. The beds are very comfortable and breakfast is either served at Rocksalt or via a little hamper to your room door.
We will be back!! Perfect for the Eurotunnel!!

Came in this afternoon for a girly afternoon, and Amanda upstairs was absolutely amazing. I’m heavily pregnant so obviously wasn’t drinking, I mentioned to a friend that I missed French Martinis so Amanda went to the effort to mix me up an alcohol free version which was perfection and really made my day so unusual to have staff that are willing to go the extra mile for people.

We had Sunday lunch here yesterday. The starter and desert were 1st class......however, Sunday main course roast was awful. The Yorkshire pudding was doughy and burnt. Roast potatoes tasted awful and the bad parts of the potato were not cut out.
Shame because the setting is very nice. I suspect the a la Carte menu is targeted for better standards more than the set menu Sunday lunch menu.

An absolutely amazing restaurant, the staff are so friendly, unassuming, and welcoming. The food is second to none, the most amazing food I have ever eaten!

Our first visit was in the winter & it was first class but going on a beautiful summers day made everything even better , Excellent food & staff !!!

Great place, awesome steaks. Try the porterhouse (T-bone steak as us English call it) sirloin and fillet steak on the bone.
Chris Ward
Love it here, lovely relaxed restaurant, fab views, fab food. Not cheap but well worth it for a treat.

Great staff- very accommodating as I wanted the Lobster Club Sandwich off the bar menu but wanted to eat in the restaurant which wasn’t a problem. Can’t wait to go back!

My wife and I along with a guest had dinner this evening at the Rocksalt. We were made to feel welcome from the time we entered the restaurant until the time we left, the level of service was excellent and the whole experience was delightful. The food was fresh, tasty and perfectly presented. I would not hesitate to recommend.

Rocksalt side dish let down. This was the second visit for a birthday treat .However, after perfect starters the main lunch was let down by the accompanying vegetables. We complained about the "roast" potatoes last time and nothing has changed. They were rock hard having obviously been dipped into the deep fat frier to re-heat them making it almost impossible to cut them let alone eat them without seriously risking tour teeth. The boiled in their skin potatoes looked good but were the driest variety available, sucking the last moisture from your mouth.<br/>Side dishes are a paid for and integral part of a meal,so should have as much attention paid to them as the main.Unfortunately Rocksalt seems to have disregarded them the same as poor pubs do when they serve up dried old frozen chips as an afterthought.

I had envisaged a clear soup with chunks of fish and what came was quite different. The dark orange blended soup was based on husk, gurnard and conger eel. It came served with a mild cheddar cheese, rouille(?) and croutons. The soup was simply delicious and was the perfect hearty dish after a stroll round the windswept harbour. I thought this was excellent.

Our Rocksalt experience was a memorable one, really enjoyed the views, the décor, the food, and the friendly service, I also like the fact that all the food is locally sourced, so top marks all round. We will be heading back here real soon. It’s worth the trip to Folkestone alone.

We are always wary of Restaurants with good views and Mark Sargeant ‘s fashionable Rocksalt Restaurant in its purposely designed building overlooking Folkestone Harbour is certainly a Restaurant with a good view. We had a beautiful sunny day for our first visit to Folkestone and had a lovely time exploring the stunning Lower Leas Coastal Park before we headed round the corner to the regenerated Harbour and made our way past the kitchen viewing area into the Restaurant. When Rocksalt first opened in 2011 it received several negative reviews that complained about both the food and the service – more recent reviews highlighted improvements in both these areas. Although it did not start of well for us, in that no one was there to greet us on arrival, leaving the barman to find a waitress who could take us to our table. The staff also seemed rather cold and brusk, with a few notable exceptions. Then just after we sat down we heard shouting from the direction of the kitchen, it might just h

Mark Sargeant has created a lovely restaurant in Folkestone. From what I have heard there have been some teething problems but clearly these have been overcome. The food was lovely and so was the service. The food at Rocksalt is unpretentious but honest and elegant. The kitchen turns out well-executed, classicly based dishes and the quality of the local Kentish produce shines through on the plate. The locals seem to have embraced this restaurant too: on the Sunday I had lunch there the place was packed. For me Rocksalt is the perfect pit-stop on my way in and out of the UK. Hope to back soon.

Rocksalt in Folkestone has been open close on three months now, enough time for it to have got into its stride. It has been reviewed in a couple of national newspapers and by a handful of bloggers but being around one to two hours outside of London, where most bloggers reside, a trip there is always a purposeful event, never a chance find or spontaneous whim. As most will know, Rocksalt is the baby of Mark Sargeant, formerly head chef at Claridge's and the opening of his first restaurant is something of a talking point for the food community. That said, not all of these words have been positive, but having read every review I can find, none seem overly harsh, though Mr Sargeant seems less than pleased with the blogger coverage thus far. As I now sit down to write our own post of a meal that we really didn't enjoy, that fact is unlikely to change. First though, the restaurant is stunning. With Roger de Haan as a backer (who with his brother Peter is reported to be worth £800mn ) it wou

I couldn't resist the special of lobster with aioli and beef dripping chips. The finest example of the crustacean I have ever had, beautifully tender served simply with a wedge of lemon and tomato salad. Portions are generous here, always a bonus!
