Had a date night with my boyfriend and was very much looking forward to it. We both love seafood and we were not disappointed! The staff and service was very good and some of the staff waa very attentive. The seafood platter we shared was amazing. A lot of cockles but all the seafood was good quality. Maybe a bit more lemon and maybe mayonnaise. Definately a treat. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go again! More wine from SA would be great.
We had an amazing anniversary dinner at Rocksalt. From the moment we walked in the door they made us feel welcome. We had a great table by the window with an excellent view of the harbour. The service was impeccable and the food, we had the seafood platter for main and it was absolutely fantastic, so fresh!! We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for making our anniversary so special.
My wife and I along with a guest had dinner this evening at the Rocksalt. We were made to feel welcome from the time we entered the restaurant until the time we left, the level of service was excellent and the whole experience was delightful. The food was fresh, tasty and perfectly presented. I would not hesitate to recommend.
I had envisaged a clear soup with chunks of fish and what came was quite different. The dark orange blended soup was based on husk, gurnard and conger eel. It came served with a mild cheddar cheese, rouille(?) and croutons. The soup was simply delicious and was the perfect hearty dish after a stroll round the windswept harbour. I thought this was excellent.
We are always wary of Restaurants with good views and Mark Sargeant ‘s fashionable Rocksalt Restaurant in its purposely designed building overlooking Folkestone Harbour is certainly a Restaurant with a good view. We had a beautiful sunny day for our first visit to Folkestone and had a lovely time exploring the stunning Lower Leas Coastal Park before we headed round the corner to the regenerated Harbour and made our way past the kitchen viewing area into the Restaurant. When Rocksalt first opened in 2011 it received several negative reviews that complained about both the food and the service – more recent reviews highlighted improvements in both these areas. Although it did not start of well for us, in that no one was there to greet us on arrival, leaving the barman to find a waitress who could take us to our table. The staff also seemed rather cold and brusk, with a few notable exceptions. Then just after we sat down we heard shouting from the direction of the kitchen, it might just h
Mark Sargeant has created a lovely restaurant in Folkestone. From what I have heard there have been some teething problems but clearly these have been overcome. The food was lovely and so was the service. The food at Rocksalt is unpretentious but honest and elegant. The kitchen turns out well-executed, classicly based dishes and the quality of the local Kentish produce shines through on the plate. The locals seem to have embraced this restaurant too: on the Sunday I had lunch there the place was packed. For me Rocksalt is the perfect pit-stop on my way in and out of the UK. Hope to back soon.
Incredible local food, including lots of locally caught seafood, and lovely views across the harbour.
Came for lunch so it wasn't too busy, and service was excellent. I ordered the trout with a side of creamy mash and it couldn't have been cooked better! Absolutely delicious, even the mash is to die for!
Be sure to book ahead as it can be difficult to get a table, and check the menu for prices too if you're on a budget as it can get expensive quickly.
An absolutely delightful solo lunch, tasty food, perfect service.
I keep on talking about this place, the atmosphere was great, nice views…one of my favourite fish restaurants out of London!
You won’t be disappointed!
Another super dinner. Hosted clients. They loved it, we loved it. Sun was just going down, tide was out, beautiful evening. 9 of us sat down for dinner. Food was excellent and service was tip top, the waiters knew everything even what the art in the harbour was. We enjoyed the Gusbourne Bubbles and some lovely french wines. My thanks to all of the team that made it a night to remember.
Great location overlooking the small harbour. The food was very good, we went for the Sunday roast, which sounds boring but it was perfect. Parking can be a problem, and we would advise booking ahead.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Some reviews have been a little negative but we enjoyed our experience and will return.
We had booked Saturday dinner and also an overnight stay in one of the rooms. The room check in was quick and room all positive,. Food was delicious as was the ambience and location. We ordered wine unfortunately the wrong bottle was brought this was queried but changed quickly. When paying the bill 4 drinks were on the receipt we had not had, unfortunately we felt questioned in regards to this and asked if we had been on the balcony previously to being seated....we had not. The correct bill was finally brought and yes these things do happen but did reduce my rating only due to how we were made to feel. Brekkie was superb though.
What a fantastic find of a restaurant. The hot seafood platter was superb……also cracking service with a huge smile and clearly enjoying their work. Also great banter top top food and what a lovely setting for a leggy lunch 👏🏻 we will defo be back !
The food was divine as usual. Haddock fishcake starter was bigger than needed. Hubby chose scallops which were succulent. My husband and I shared the sea bream, which was served whole but deboned. So tasty.
Dessert was the chocolate delice, blackcurrant sorbet and vanilla cream. It was a triumph of bitter richness. Truly a taste sensation. Bill £150 but money well spent.
The food is simply amazing!
The staff very professional and kind.
Inside the whole length of the restaurant is in glass and you can dine (at lunch) looking the tide grow inside the bay. Fantastic!
I came back and I can confirm again the great experience. The food delicious and amazing service, the staff always smiling and attentive.

Excellent modern British food with a seafood focus. The dining room enjoys stellar harbour views, and the food is very good indeed. Prices are reasonable given the quality and service was excellent. Well worth visiting.
Lovely food, *very* lovely Sicilian white wine. The stand-out thing for me was the politeness and efficiency of the waitresses - I kept saying to myself "what have I done to deserve this?"
