Lovely place, a walk-in (no bookings) bistro-type place and a music and film memorabilia heaven. All the food was freshly cooked at lightening speed. We had the seafood feast for 2 which comprised sardines, prawns, calamari and mussels served with crusty bread to mop up the liquor from the mussels, and salad. Perfect. Top quality standard food. Will definitely return if we are in the area again
Excellent unspoiled food relying on the taste of the food itself rather than rich sauces and flavouring, a seriously good vibe, really friendly staff throughout and not in your face unhurried service. All this in Fowey! Simply the most enjoyable place to eat. We would visit more often but like a change of menu, otherwise we would be there every week, especially during the winter.
Sam's on the beach. A last minute find for a Sunday night. Always a tricky night if you dont want a roast dinner or an empty restaurant. Neither of those problems we had here, actually im glad I booked as all the tables were full. We had the veggie antipasti to share for starters a great little mezze of bits. Next the seafood platter to share, they ran out of scallops so we had some more tiger prawns. The platter is huge and comes with a bowl of mussels and clams. Nothing quite beats a Cornish mussel they were melting in our mouths! Great little restaurant, fresh fish and view out to sea as the sun goes down. Couldn't ask for more!
Fun Friday with fresh fish. Tried Sam's on a Friday evening. They don't take reservations and the place was packed but we decided to brave the 45 minute wait for a table based on the enthusiasm (and honesty) of the greeting we received. We waited in the cocktail bar upstairs (also packed .... 15 minutes before a seat was available). I make the points about the waiting and the seats so that you expect it, and so that you're not put off by it, because the food is worth waiting for. Between us we tried grilled mackerel, pan seared scallops, grilled sardines and grilled chicken with bacon. All were cooked beautifully, were ample portions and came with refreshing salads and crusty bread. Our server was attentive and enthusiastic and the front of house manager (who'd greeted us when we arrived) followed up with us a couple of times during the meal to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and had everything we needed, then shouted a goodbye and thank you from the far end of the restaurant as we left. Genuine enthusiastic staff, good service, fun atmosphere and nicely cooked food.
Wow, took my wife for a birthday lunch.
They allowed us in with our two small dogs.
Staff so helpful and pleasant. Loved the music memorabilia on display.
We shared the sea food platter. Excellent quality and more than we could eat.
Thanks to everyone there for a wonderful lunch.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the very best food & service I've ever had in my life!
Honestly, this place is unreal. The surf & turf is 10/10 and the beef short-rib 11/10.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and made us a table even though they were fully booked. So glad and thankful they did, the whole experience was legendary. Thank you!!!
Had a lovely meal here, the food was good but a little on the pricey side but it was tasty.
Ordered (pictured):
The charcuterie starter
Fish and chips (so many chips)
Surf and turf
Would recommend to others.
What a great place. Tasty menu, so much to choose from. Good drinks list too. Will return.
We were walking round Fowey for about an trying to find somewhere to eat as some places didn't look child friendly and with a one and half year old that's important. We found Sam's and I couldn't of been happier.
First off, our server Oliver, was the best service I have ever had in a restaurant. We normally go out twice a week locally to us, we have been to three one Michelin star restaurants and Olivers service was better. Normally with a child you are worried about getting looks from servers, not with Oliver, he saw us struggling and brought over colours. Being young parents we have always felt uncomfortable, but not here and I think that was mostly due to Oliver.
Now the food, the food was absolutely amazing. It didn't take to long, and even if it took ten hours it would be would be worth the wait. As you can see from the photos it was delicious.
I just want to thank Sam's for making our day.
Great place! Worth a visit but make sure you book in advance for dinner. It is very popular and gets busy. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Plenty of food to choose from and the desserts were absolutely delicious. Good portion of food and fair prices. Oh and the background music was very enjoyable!
The owner and staff were very helpful, I was treated well. The atmosphere was very pleasant when you consider the energy of the people and the place. I got the "Seafood Feast" and it was the best seafood I've had in several years. I would recommend this place especially to those who crave for seafood. Thanks to Leo from Westerly for recommendation!
Wow what a fantastic place the food was heaven and Edd made us feel so welcome and was kind to our dog the food was the best valve for money and I would have paid more it was exceptional thank you , we loved it so much we then went to sam’s on the beach and that was just as awesome
Dropped in for lunch, had the fish and chips they were very good, nice crisp batter on the fish, the mushy peas were lightly minted to just the right amount and the chips were also good. The other dishes we saw all looked good. The only reason I didn't give 5 for atmosphere is due to the door being open it was a little on the cool side, but I would certainly eat here again.
A truly delicious Bouillabaisse made with the freshest ingredients. I don't think I've ever eaten a better seafood dish in the UK. If you are in Fowey and love seafood then I would highly recommend the Bouillabaisse at Sam's.
