What can I say other than superb. From the moment we arrived, the service and the food was just amazing.
We booked it for our wedding anniversary and the booking form asked if there was a reason for booking, we had the taster menu along with the wine tasting menu alongside.
Every little detail was taken care of to having Happy Anniversary on the top of both our menus. The service was excellent from finishing one course and receiving the next, there was no long wait and they were very happy to serve which made the whole experience truly fantastic.
We will definitely be booking again to try more of what the Fox and Goose offers.
Thank you for making our anniversary a wonderful experience.
We went for our 27th wedding anniversary and had been told how wonderful the place was. It's not until you go yourself that you realise what a gem this place really is. From the moment you walk in you are made to feel special. Even the menus had Happy anniversary on them. The device was 1st class, and the food was magnificent. We will return.
Enjoyed a delightful dinner at the Fox and Goose. Service was friendly and professional, food was excellent. Definitely worth a try even if you have to travel to get there. Will certainly be visiting again!
We had a wonderful lunch: service was top notch and food was wonderful. They accommodated our baby so nicely. A great experience, well worth a visit!
Excellent meal with friendly service. The lobster special was a highlight. Great wine list.
This was the best meal out we've had in some time. We would have happily had anything on the Table D'Hote menu, which made it difficult to choose! We opted for the rabbit and mackerel for starters, venison and fillet of beef for mains and creme brule and panacotta for dessert. All of our courses were delicious and well presented. The meat was tender and tasty. Everything was perfectly seasoned. The wine was good. The service was friendly, helpful and professional. The atmosphere was cozy and the decor was simple and in keeping with the building. The building is old and beautiful, I liked the simple white walls with the beams and wonky floors. It was lovely to have such high end food in somewhere that felt so homely and comfortable. We will definitely be going back again.
There are effectively two restaurants here. One is a pub restaurant, the other a 'proper restaurant. We were in the latter.
There is a car park but at 7:30pm on a Friday evening we had the last space.
The building is very old with food served on multiple floors. We were upstairs in a quite large well timbered room. This is a pleasant space but not really intimate.
The food was OK but not memorable. They were busy and the food took a while to arrive as you might expect. Perhaps the size of the room exceeds the capacity of the small kitchen at times.
The staff were professional but a bit distant and we didn't feel overly engaged.
Compared to its peers there still a little work to do.
Overall we would go back but with lower expectations than for our first visit.
First appearance is of an average looking pub. Don't be fooled. The beer is excellent and well looked after, the wines excellent and the folks who serve it are fantastic.
The food is where it all comes together. Ye gods its good!
I had a Hoisin Duck Rillet with some incredibly flavoursome compressed melon and mango.
Fillet of beef cooked to absolute perfection (I have mine blue), all side dishes of equal quality.
The dessert though. Man alive the pastry chef is a genius! Chocolate mousse, hazelnut ganache, espresso jelly and then some. The added surprise was a fine sprinkle of salt hidden on the plate that cut through the sweetness and brought the whole thing to a stunning close.
A truly fantastic meal and wonderful evening with my wife.
We'll be back.
Every pub worth its weight in saffron has bangers and mash on the menu. Pop down your local Wetherspoons and the chef de cuisine (who I'll refer to as the CDC from hereon in) can whip you up a plate of this British classic.
So what would a pub that prides itself on quality and innovation do with such a staple? How to avoid getting lost in the veritable pandemic of sausage and crushed potato that has had the nation in its thrall for the past century?
The answer is surprisingly simple: good ingredients, simply prepared, and stylishly presented.
The Fox and Goose haven't tried anything fancy with their bangers and mash. Local sausages, with a perfect crispy outside and soft inners. Creamy, flavourful mash that perfectly complements the texture of the sausages. A thick, rich onion gravy that coats the veg and sausages, and soaks into the mash for the perfect mushy mouthful.
Anyway, I had the lamb. It was pretty decent. Props to the CDC.
The food, the drink, the staff. All spot on.
The pastry chef in particular is a genius!
I had the Hoisin Duck Rillade with some amazing compressed melon and mango.
Main course was some perfectly cooked fillet of beef (I have mine blue). The side dishes were equally well cooked and presented.
The dessert though. My word it was good! Chocolate mousse, hazelnut ganache, coffee ice cream and espresso jelly. Some additional surprises on the plate tied it together perfectly.
A truly spectacular meal and a perfect setting for a celebratory date night with my wife.
We'll be back.
