What a cracking, traditional pub in Golant overlooking the River Fowey. Perfect in every way. We had lunch with the most amazing Cornish pasties and 'the best' salad. Served by a lovely lady and chef, very friendly. The menu is comprehensive, so much to choose from with a nice selection of ales. With plenty of undercover outside seating too. We will most definitely be back
Great little, proper old pub. The service was great and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was really good. It was a wet and windy Thursday evening so quite quiet but those who were there had a great time. It's in a lovely spot on the River Fowey (Foy for non-locals) so when it's daytime, it's got quite a view also. Thank you.
We spent three nights in Golant, an idyllic Cornish village, right on the estuary, we ate there every day and we were never disappointed.
The fish on Friday was fresh, chips delicious and homemade tartar sauce with mushy peas for £12, outstanding, the beer and choices of gin good too.
The second evening it was deep fried squid followed by pies that were full and rich and no soggy bottom! Sunday lunch was the highlight though: rump of lamb, perfectly pink for my wife and a trio of meats for me, each cooked as I would want them with crispy potatoes, generous veg and roats potatoes, the ginger pudding almost finished us off! You can tell the chef cares and cooks to impress.
So the food and drink were great but it is actually the atmosphere, the locals (who know they have a good thing and support it) and the quick and friendly service overseen by Nick and his parents who are stars.
It is really lovely here, almost like being on the set of a film, hospitable, welcoming and warm in every sense.
Highly recommended. Thank you Nick and staff.
We were staying just up the road from The Fisherman’s Arms, and were very pleasantly surprised with this place. Everything was just perfect, the staff were very friendly, we were made to feel very welcome, even getting recommendations on places to visit on our trip (our golden retriever Lilly also got a lot of attention and treats!). Food was absolutely top notch, we had the prawn special, which were fresh and tasty, followed by a very well stocked fish pie and a delicious chicken special. Excellent selection of beers on tap too!
Not many places seem to open on a Sunday evening but the Fisherman's sure did. We received a great welcome from the landlord and his staff. The beer and wine were good and we had a hearty meal, the Steak and Ale pie was a hit. Nice to be in a traditional pub.
As others have said, beware the high tide times. When it is in, it completely covers Water Lane at the front of the pub. One car had to be rescued. There is parking on the side at the pub but it is limited, I believe there is a larger car park at the end of Water Lane that does not flood.
What a lovely little pub!!!
Myself, my husband & 3 SEN children are on holiday in Cornwall. We found this pub when we were looking for somewhere to eat.
We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we entered. A lovely table outside overlooking the boats was where we were sat. Food choices were great! Kids actually found something they each liked. The chef sent out the children’s food first which we thought was such a lovely gesture. We could not fault the quality of the food, my husband even said it was the best burger he had eaten! My son adored the ladies behind the bar which is massive since he doesn’t like new people normally.
We left a well deserved tip for the chef & thanked everyone. The kids even hugged the lady I assume is the landlady.
100% recommend here!!!!!
We have just stayed In Golant for a week. What a great pub! Excellent food and drink at fair prices served by friendly staff with superb views out over the river and countryside. Very happy to highly recommend and will definitely return.
This is the second time visiting here. The first time was a couple of years ago, I thought it was great, and then this time, it was even better. I tried a local cider, but it was amazing . The staff here are ultra friendly and go out of their way to help. We took our dog with us, and within five minutes, all the staff knew his name. And brought him a doggy treat. I highly recommend the fisherman's arms.
Really delicious traditional home cooked pub grub, the fish pie was excellent as was the steak and ale. Good selection of ales and a stunning view of the river Fowey from the ample seating on the Riverside terrace.
You could spend a whole afternoon watching the boats from here. Proper hidden gem!
Really nice atmosphere, very welcoming and awesome outdoor seating area with a lovely view. Food was amazing and also reasonably priced, perfect after a long day of walking.
