Everything for the moment we walked in to the moment we left was excellent. The food was some of the best I’d ever had. Excellent service. A great range of choice. I felt completely looked after and very welcome. The atmosphere was great and everyone around us was making very similar ‘hmmm..’ yummy noises as us so I think this was an all round winner!
Midweek dinner--staying nearby and booked for dinner - comfortable surroundings, food excellent - couldn't manage desserts but they looked fab on other tables, staff very friendly and chatty without being at all intrusive. Definitely recommend
Another return trip - and pleased to say, its very much as you were. Food cooked really well in pleasant surroundings, with some good local beer and great service. Hopefully see you next year!
Four of us were staying nearby for Christmas and decided to book a meal at The Grasmere Hotel to celebrate the birthday of my wife’s sister. From the moment we walked in we knew we were in for a treat. The hotel lounge is lovely. Comfy seats in a very nicely decorated room and with a roaring fire warming the room. We enjoyed a pre-dinner drink while choosing what to eat; I tried a local gin and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is also nicely decorated and the whole place has a fresh feel to it. We were made to feel very welcome and looked after so well. The food was delicious and there is a nice selection of wines. We have dined a few times at the Forest Side and thought this place competed strongly with the quality of food and service we experienced there. We will definitely be back!
Thank you to Keven, Niki and staff who made this a very special evening for us. The hotel has been seasonally decorated as can be seen from attached pics and the first impression of the establishment was one of luxury. The food we ate was of exceptional quality with generous portions. Highly recommend the Venison and Bakewell Tart with Clotted Cream and Blue Berries. In the words of Arnie Schwarzenegger ‘we'll be back’.
Whilst stopping in a cottage we passed by the Grasmere, (an hotel I stopped in many times a few years ago), and for old times sakes asked if we could booka table for our abbiversary. The young lady manning the front desk could not have been more accomodating and we duly turned up to be met by her sister who was equally pleasant and inviting. It turns out that since we were regular visitors the hotel has changed hands twice and the improvements by the present owners, (whose daughters were the front of house), have been tastefully carried out and to a high standard. The food was delicous and great value for £35 per head with the service second to none, they even remembered it was our anniversary and had a card waiting for us on our table, a nice touch. We cannot fault the Grasmere and it was lovely to think that it has even improved from the original, we will book a room next time.
The £35 prix Fixe menu is in bib varied, generous in length and extremely well cooked and presented.I had the grilled smoked mackerel starter and short rib beef main with an innovative celeriac dauphinoise.Spirit and liqueur list very long and inexpensive, plenty of good value wine and local beers.
Fast, polite service by good humoured waiting staff.Do go.
Having read the glowing TA reviews of this restaurant, whilst searching for local eats, I decided to book a table as a special treat for my wife & I whilst on holiday.
From the opening welcome, to the final goodbye, the hospitality & service we received was first class.
Matching the photos of previous reviewers, each dish arrived as pretty as a picture, & all were as delicious as they looked. Special highlight of the evening for us were the starters (we both chose smoked haddock & leek risotto with a crispy egg).
Special mention also goes to the lovely surroundings of the relaxed lounge area, in which you are made comfortable whilst ordering your food, & for coffee afterwards.
In summary, the (very) complimentary reviews are to be believed, & this turned out to be exactly the special occasion we had hoped it to be.
Thank-you for a lovely evening.
What a fabulous place. The staff in this family run hotel were so friendly, yet very efficient and professional. The food was glorious, it was a set priced meal with several courses. There was far more food than we would normally eat, but it was all absolutely delicious. This was a new venue for us in Grasmere, but I have to say it is now a firm favourite, we will definitely be visiting again.
We booked this in advance trusting the glowing reviews we had read.
Well we were not to be disappointed.
Firstly it needs to be said that the staff were all superb and the lady managing the staff and organising the team was exceptional. Everybody was very friendly and went to great effort to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.
The food was excellent, simple to see why this is the No. 1.
Very reasonable price for great food.
We wish we could have gone again the next night but it was fully booked, no surprise there!
We ate here as we were staying at the hotel. Both are highly recommended. The food is excellent and the service was also great
Excellent fixed price menu with plenty of choice. Excellent service with a reasonably priced wine list.
We had a wonderful meal here this week. We were a bit worried it would be a bit crusty but it was lovely. The food was exceptional and the service from Charlotte and Rebecca was lovely. We hadn’t realised it was a set menu so had to have four courses plus amuse bouche. For #35 it was amazing value. If you want a lovely quiet night out with amazing food then please go.
My friend and I dined here on our last night in Grasmere having tried several other restaurants in the town. We had such a wonderful evening that we felt the need to leave out first ever trip advisor review! We adored the food which was so fresh and tasty and the staff of this family run hotel/restaurant were incredibly friendly and welcoming! Our meal was excellent value for money and we were already talking about staying at the hotel on our next trip back to the Lakes to sample more of the delicious food and enjoy the excellent hospitality of this establishment! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
My wife and I were greated on arrival and looked after exceptionally well. The pre-dinner lounge is very cosy and traditional helping us to relax and the diner was superb in a very presentable dining room. This is an excellent establishment which far exceeded our expectations. The level of service is excellent.
Was part of a large party and was catered for brilliantly. Staff are sooo helpful. Highly recommend and we will be back!
We visited the hotel restaurant for my birthday. Had the four course menu. Great choices across the menu all cooked brilliantly, both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We will definitely return and stay at the hotel on our next visit to Grasmere
Being let down by the neighbouring hotel (sadly closing down their restaurant before we arrived) we were so happy to secure 3 evening meals in this beautiful hotel. We were treated to a plethora of the most amazing food, the fresh scallops were particularly scrumptious, completely off the scale! Thanks to Nicki, Bex, and especially Charlotte, we were made to feel very welcome and at home, nothing was too much trouble, and they even sang to me & produced a cake on my Birthday..it was wonderful! I can't think of a better place to eat, it's great value for money and the quality of food & service is second to none. To make it perfect, next year I hope we'll be able to stay in the Grasmere Hotel too and enjoy the complete experience! Five*
We had the misfortune of staying nearby at the Travelers Rest and could not face eating there so tried this place and lucky for us they had a cancellation for dinner. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel really welcome and comfortable. Lovely building and lounge to enjoy a drink while you look at the menu. The food itself was superb and well worth the £35 for four courses. Service was amazing, each member of the team took the time to engage with the customers and nothing was too much trouble. If the hotel was not fully booked we would have stayed the night but its first on our list when we return.
The traditional ambience of this hotel restaurant in the beautiful environment of Grasmere is worth savouring. The experience began with a friendly welcome to a traditionally appointed lounge for a pre-meal drink with relaxing lounge jazz in the background. The dining room is nicely arranged and lit, the service was attentive and the clientele were quietly enjoying their meals. The four course special was substantial, well prepared and hearty, although for me none of the dishes really 'sang'; I used the table cruets (salt and pepper) to supplement the seasoning for the main course, which is in itself, I suppose, a traditional practice. This was the sort of higher-end fare that stands one in good stead after a day's walking, or ahead of a day walking on the morrow; a tastefully pleasant evening.
