Booked online for a table for 3 but had an unexpected addition. Phoned in the morning and without problem changed the booking for 4. Arrived a bit early so was happy to wait in the bar area. Our table was ready a little bit before the time slot and we were seated. Had a chat with the waitress about our daughter who is a very small eater and was advised under 3’s can have a plate that you can share your portion with for free (not allowed to fill the plate from the food station which is absolutely fair enough) - food was lovely , couldn’t fault it or our waitress. Happy customer and will return xx
Went for the first time on Wed 6th July with my friend Andy didn't get there till 9.30pm but the staff made us very welcome the food was still very hot and I enjoyed every bit of it . So on Sat 8th July me and my friend decided to walk from strood to gravesend it took us 2 hours but worth every mouthful and yes then we walked back as last time food was very very nice and the staff was lovely so well done x
I had my doubts after reading the sole "2-Star" review on Yelp, but the place was packed whenever we drove by, so we made a reservation for a traditional English Sunday roast, but with a twist, this place is a buffet. They apparently fixed the problems they had when they first opened, not uncommon.
The place is new and tastefully furnished with a small bar and John Smiths, unfortunately, as their sole ale. We made a reservation for 6:45PM on a Sunday, being seated at 6:48PM, not bad. The service was friendly and efficient as it should be.
You can "Trade-Up to a King Size" at a cost of around £12 ($16.25), so the small ones must be £10.50 ($14.25) or so. I am guessing because I did not see the prices anywhere, not having looked at the menu (why order a starter at a buffet?) and because our friends treated us. The rule is (for any size plate) - one trip for meat and as many as you want for the sides dishes.
They start by literally tossing a Yorkshire pudding on the plate and the choice of meats included roast pork, turkey, ham and beef in that order. I assume you get "about" the same weight in meat no matter how many you choose, so I asked for the pork and beef. The serving size was adequate, not too much and not too little. The Yorkshire pudding was a bit too dry in the middle, consequence of making so many at once and leaving them sitting under a heat lamp for so long.
Then there were the choices of sides: roasted potatoes, stuffing/dressing, mashed potatoes (plain and with mustard seed), green beans, peas, some orange things I never heard of, scalloped potatoes, creamed cauliflower, brown gravy, and horseradish, mint and cranberry sauces. Beside the pudding, I had the roasted and mashed potatoes (I did not care for the mustard variety), some stuffing, scalloped potatoes and cauliflower with brown gravy on nearly everything and horseradish sauce on the beef.
"Brilliant" as the locals would say. The food was very good and a decent TravelValue for the price. Make sure you trade-up to the "large plate" for an extra €1.50 and extra meat, including a couple of sausages. Traditional Sunday roast buffet-style ... HOOAH!
The downside: 1) The parking lot is not big enough for the number of cars .... the place was packed; 2) Beer/ale selection was inadequate; and 3) the Yorkshire pudding was not fresh - too dry

Everything! The cleanliness of the premises, toilets, service worktops, the food, drinks, service. Brilliant!
My husband and I travel around the country for work so we've eaten at a lot of Toby's, which are nice. But Gravesend is excellent! The best one! And I'm glad it's my local.
Very impressed indeed. Food and service was amazing. Staff all very friendly as well. Went out for my daughters birthday so there was a large group of us (16) a lot to cater for but everything was perfect and we all had a really lovely meal. Amazing value for money. Top marks all round.
I took brought a gentleman I support here as part of a weekend away. Despite the restaurant being very busy the staff couldn’t do enough for him and were all patient with him and took their time to speak to him and listen about his day at Brands Hatch. It was lovely to see such a welcoming team especially on a night where they were obviously all rushed off their feet. Definitely an autism friendly place to eat. Thanks guys!
We were seated quickly by a friendly host. Food was served quickly and was very tasty. Slight disappointment that the vegan options weren't available but a meat free roast was still delicious and the vegan meatballs as starter were lovely. Milena is credit to the team, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Excellent!
We visited mid afternoon & pleasantly surprised that it was not too busy. Beautifully appointed with comfy seating, scatter cushions etc. Staff were friendly & efficient, the food excellent although some veg were only warm. A really enjoyable occasion.
I had a wonderful dining experience at Toby Carvery, and I must commend Milena for going above and beyond. Her warm and welcoming demeanor, along with her attentiveness in checking if everything was alright, truly enhanced our visit. Being served by her made the meal even more enjoyable. “Well Done Milena”
Had a delicious roast dinner here. Served by the friendliest member of staff. Out door seating if you want to. Clean toilets. There is plenty of food, good food too. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole setup. It's worth a visit. Get in early to avoid disappointment.
The whole experience was very good we went for mid week carvery and it was fresh, plentiful and served warm (not like some others we been too), the Yorkshire puds were massive, and the gravy was delicious as was the whole meal.
We didn’t really have any complaints other than one minor gripe which was the man greeting us and showing us to our table was not very welcoming and could of made a better effort towards his appearance and the way he presented himself he also should of had alittle knowledge with regards to some of the desserts on the menu as when he was asked about a particular dessert he couldn’t answer and he said ‘I don’t know anything about desserts’.
The desserts were large portions size and was a nice finish to the meal.
I definitely recommend booking a table beforehand as it gets very busy and some customers that were queuing were complaining because they had been waiting for over 30mins.
Love it here, especially the lady who always serves us, can’t remember her name but she has an accent and is amazing
The staff were friendly! Restaurant and toilets were spotless! The wide selection of meats were lovely! The best toby's I've been too! Will definitely come back! Well done to you guys
