Fantastic place. We couldn’t fault it in anyway. The pub, food, ambience and staff were all top class. Our dog was made very welcome and they even had a dog menu! The food was too die for. Would 100% recommend. We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience and would definitely go back there again and stay longer next time.
Just enjoyed a lovely meal and stay here. Everybody made us feel so welcome. Enjoyed a cup of tea on our arrival in the cosy bar before being shown to our Garden Room which was just lovely. Had a very enjoyable evening meal, the menu was interesting, a steak cooked as requested and the game sausage dish from the specials board so tasty. The carrot cake pudding dish was delicious and quirky with the carrot ice cream -just wished I’d had room to finish it all! A comfortable night and an extensive breakfast menu to choose from the following morning finished off a really enjoyable stay, where nothing was too much trouble. Thank you, we hope to come back to see you again.
This place is an absolute hidden gem.
Both the food and the rooms completely exceeded our expectations and both could exist proudly in a top tier establishment in any of the major cities.
The only thing letting this place down was the service from some of the women at lunch and dinner on both days which was abrupt and unfriendly. However, Rob behind the bar made up for this by remembering our drink orders from the previous night which caught us by surprise and was a lovely touch!
Thank you Dabbling Duck for such a wonderful stay!
I would say believe every great review you've read about the pub, restaurant and pizza barn. We had an amazing dinner there last night in the library room, partially in agony from the warm aroma of the wood-fired pizza oven burning in the next room because we weren't in the mood for pizza. The meal we did have was great and I'm sure you really can't go wrong here. Nice salad, some smoked salmon and 2 pints of Wherry were just what we needed after a long drive. And if you're a man of a certain age you *must* check out the album covers in the gents. Great, friendly service from a crew of people who clearly love working here and give it their very best. We'll definitely be back.
Excellent food, but check the menus online as there isn't a massive choice (not a problem for most) and some people might be difficult to please.
The Garden room that we had was very nice, clean and quiet, though in summer it's possibly a bit noisy with customers in the garden
The Vegetarian Full English breakfast was - dare I say it - better than most other (meat) Full English that I've eaten elsewhere.
Lovely typical English village
The best Sunday roast I have eaten out in a very long time. The gravy was superb. Very busy place but with food so good- you understand why.
The staff were fantastic finding a good table, as one of us were in a wheelchair.
We popped here with the kids for lunch and were really impressed. The food was brilliant across the board, it was so refreshing to eat out somewhere where the kids food was of high quality and very reasonably priced. The service was great too. We were all really happy with our visit and will definitely return. Highly recommend.
We never staying as we are local, we came for a family birthday meL. Outstanding meal & service today at The Dabbling Duck we were a family of 7 & the team was amazing at accommodating our two fussy eaters. The roasts were top notch & oh my goodness my pistachios & earl grey cake desert was delicious. Thank you all for an amazing evening.
A great location in a beautiful village.
The room as clean, the bathroom immaculate and the staff friendly and helpful.
my only critique was the evening meal we had, the starter (pigeon) was perfect, but i opted for a simple fave burger and fries for the main. I did not finish the burger, the meat was dry as desert sand.
such a pity to be let down by something the chef should have been able to produce perfection in his/her sleep.
The Dabbling duck was amazing. We went for lunch where we had a choice for all of our party of 12. The Tandoori pigeon was fabulous as was the Pistachio cake with Earl Grey strawberry sorbet and white chocolate crema was super delicious. The vegetarian nut roast was also so tasty.
That was THE BEST full English veggie breakfast I've ever had and I'm 30 odd years veggie. Outstanding. Rooms really nice, quiet. Village is idyllic. Don't tell the septics, they'll spoil it.
Such a wonderful place. The staff are super accommodating and friendly and customer focussed.
Where I sit is always really important and the lovely waitress laid a table especially for us having ensured we didn’t miss last orders.
Food was good and I’m looking forward to our next visit.
