Fantastic quality of fish and chips. Probably the best you'll have. The batter is light and crispy, the chips perfectly cooked and there's some magic in those peas. Wonderful service and great dining experience.

Never fails to deliver the most excellent tasting fish and chips (and the best garden peas and tartare sauce). There's friendly, helpful and speedy service. Can't fault this place, it's so brilliant we drive 45 minutes just to eat here.

I live in Cambridge, I dodn't travel to Harpenden just for Fish n chips , but I don't like to leave with a Godfrey's.

Many years ago I was in Harpenden and tried Godfrey's and the cod was delicious so when they opened their shop in Bushey I used it until it unfortunately closed (I live in Watford). Last Friday evening I decided to travel by bus to Harpenden to Godfrey's so I ordered a medium cod but when I opened the box I thought I had been given a small cod instead on pointing this out I was told it was a medium cod it just looked small because the fish was thicker on leaving the shop and preceding to eat the fish another customer came up to me and laughing at me and said that what I had looked like a fish finger not a medium cod and I should complain which I said to him I had but it had made no difference needles to say I went home feeling somewhat humiliated.
In light of your explanation I would like to apologise and amend my review to "excellent service" and look forward to visiting Godfrey's again. Perhaps other customers might refrain from making inappropriate comments on my purchase in future

I took take away medium cod chips. As previous times I really enjoyed it and would go back. Only have 3 stars for atmosphere as I didn't eat in.

My parents' favourite! Food and service were excellent; my folks come here often and love the fish, and my battered halloumi was light and delicious. Chips were the best I've had in years. Only docking a star because a significant amount of menu items turned out to be unavailable.

Good quality fish and chips restaurant in Harpenden. Regular size is quite satisfying. Small eating space, good and fast service. You can choose various options next to the main dishes, yet coleslaw is very good.
