We went to the Shoulder of Mutton for my birthday, my husband had booked the table as he knew they had a gluten free menu. We were shown to our table straight away and our order was taken. It was fabulous to choose from a dedicated gluten free menu, there was plenty choice and we were told that all the meals on the specials menu were also gluten free.
The pub appeared quite full but we didn't have to wait too long at all for our meal. We had both ordered steaks and they were cooked exactly as we ordered, it was delicious. For dessert I ordered gluten free sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. It was absolutely amazing, great taste, generous portion and wonderful sauce and ice cream. My husband was equally happy with his dessert.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this pub for its food, great service, pleasant, comfortable and friendly environment.
Fairly unassuming from the outside but when you are in really good. We went as a family and the menu had everything we could have wanted. Quality was excellent. Prepped well, cooked really nice. Spot on. You could not fault the service and staff. Will go again!!
A great place to eat, we had breakfast there which was perfectly cooked, hot and good portion sizes.
The service was quick, courteous and with a smile.
The icing on the cake for my wife was the fact they served tea with a pot of hot water - old fashioned but a nice touch.
The pub has a very good atmosphere about it, that real country feel located in a small village just outside Harrogate. Plenty of parking and I believe good wheelchair access.
Well worth a visit if the evening meals are as tasty as the breakfast we had you won't be disappointed!
I stayed in one of the rooms to then join a friend at their home. I had the best Theakston Old Peculiar In a very long time, followed by an excellent takeaway fish and chips. The pub had a great atmosphere, the room was really well presented and breakfast in the morning was great too.
Kate and her team have created something really special here. We travelled nearly 20 hours from America for a wedding at Wharfdale Grange and when we arrived at Shoulder of Mutton we breathed a huge sigh of relaxation. Not only is it incredibly charming, but the staff are so kind and wonderful. They welcomed us like we were family and even packed us a breakfast for our early morning train journey. The room itself was lovely and modern and the shower is incredible - so nice after all of that travel! Would recommend 100 times over. Absolutely beautiful spot!
Stayed for two nights (in the suite) Had dinner in t'pub on day 1 and the food was superb, we both really enjoyed our meals (steak ale and mushroom pie and shoulder of mutton) and the black sheep bitter was one of the best kept and pulled pints I have had for a long time.
The suite is lovely, spotlessly clean and all lovely decor and facilities - the room was a bit warm when we first got in and couldn't seem to cool it down but we asked for a fan and we're given a really good one so well done there!
The breakfast was delicious (both mornings) and the host was really polite and just attentive enough (just how we like it!)
To be honest a real gem and nothing to knock any points off for - if we ever need to be in that area again we would be back like a shot! Heartily recommend it ☺
Stopped off for lunch after a nice morning at Harewood house. Very friendly welcome, staff and owner were lovely. BEST roast dinner I have ever had (and as a northerner I’ve had a few) super dog friendly! Even with our noisy pups, we weren’t made to feel uncomfortable. Absolutely lovely experience overall and would highly recommend their signature dish of lamb shoulder! Potato dauphinois was divine! 5 Star food for a change from all the other places. P.S The Sticky Toffee Pudding is life changing.
What a fantastic place. Our room large, bed so, so comfortable, stunning modern bathroom and everything spotlessly clean. We ate at the pub all 3 nights because the food was so good. Kate is so lovely and makes everyone feel very welcome. Absolutely perfect 3 night stay.
Superb accommodation! We stayed in the Ribbledale Suite. It looks brand new! Separate sitting room with comfy seats, dining table, fridge, microwave and lovely touches. Very large king size bed with en-suite. We loved it! Food in the pub was delicious and Sarah and staff were really lovely. We will be back. PS. Love the H2k hand and body lotion in the suite, ordered some online :)
Amazing place. We stayed one night in a beautiful room called 'Wensleydale' and ate and drank at the pub/restaurant - it was fab. Great room, well appointed, and spotless. The beer is excellent, and the food superb. Recommended.
Excellent food, especially the 'Shoulder of Mutton' choice with very well kept Yorkshire ales. Friendly and attentive staff, unspoiled pub. Pretty perfect all around.
The SoM is an excellent establishment, warm welcome, outstanding accommodation, fine ales on tap, and delicious food. I would rate this 10/10 and 5☆, if you ever get a chance to go, I recommend the Black Sheep cask ale and the shoulder of lamb...both of which were delicious.
