The Town Hall Cafe

The Town Hall itself is very good, with a decent cafe. I was there for a special event, the Rag Market, and I was disappointed with that....long queue, packed hall, and for a short person, almost impossible to see or access the stalls. It was claustrophobic, and I can't imagine anyone in a wheelchair being able to get around the narrow aisles packed with people. Parking is the usual nightmare and the one near the Town Hall is now a building site. Locals aren't shy about showing their frustration with visitors trying to negotiate the traffic system.

Visited Hebden Bridge for the first time yesterday with my family. We decided to travel by bus because the trains were on strike. Was a lot cheaper because it only cost me and my son £5 with a day saver/all buses to travel there. My partner used his bus pass, and it cost him nothing. We got the 17 bus to Rochdale and then got the 590 to Hebden Bridge. It did take a bit to get there, and it was worth it. It was amazing, breathtaking, surrounded by the green hills, fresh clean air, and a bridge over the river Calder. Many independent shops and market traders selling lots of different things from sweets to turkish lanterns and homemade crafts, including blankets, wooden benches, and mugs. Had food in The White Swan, which was tasty and reasonably priced. Will be going back soon and will also be walking around the beautiful park. I would highly recommend a visit.

A nice community space and cafe adjacent to the river. A good place to have an unrushed coffee and tasty soup lunch with locally made bread. As a former hospitality manager, I’d just like to compliment the service as well! Two particular stand outs are Aaron and Natalie, lovely young people with a charm and friendliness you just can’t teach! I always feel put in a good mood after being served by them, and often see them taking the time to chat with older regular customers who clearly appreciate it. Feels like a very important thing to cultivate in a good community space. I’d never poach staff on principle, but sometimes it’s tempting! Another thing to note is the frequent events and exhibitions that take place in the cafe and town hall itself. There’s usually something to check out, so it’s worth a regular visit!
