Mad Mex

Update: Not sure about the other stores, but this store is hugely unreliable with opening time, I've been caught out multiple times, so now I don't even bother going there anymore. They have an earlier closing time in winter time which is fine, but even then, you might travel all the way to the boat harbour to get your food, and find they closed 45 minutes early according to their supposed winter schedule (and the staff will pretend that you're invisible as they wander around in front of you inside the store). It's much safer bet to just go directly to Zambreros now. Original review- My new favourite place, when I can't be bothered cooking :) Mad Mex is great, I almost feel bad that I didn't try them earlier. Really delicious food, nice variety of choices (you can pick some pretty healthy options if you wanted), and I noticed that I can put the unbleached cardboard trays and paper bags in my compost, bonus. The Hillarys store staff were also lovely each time I went. Oh and there's vegan/gluten free options, if you happen to have dietary needs or your friends have those requirements (sometimes it's a REAL struggle to find something for everyone), more yay. I like these guys.

I work in Hillarys so have been a regular at MadMex since the day it opened a few years ago. It is fast food and it is a franchise so don't expect authentic Mexican food like you'd get in California (where I'm from) or um, Mexico :-) (where I have lived) but it's pretty good. The only major item missing is refried beans which I am constantly complaining to them about. This particular franchise is run by a lady from Columbia (I told you, I go there a LOT) and within the confines of the franchise's menu (no refried beans!!!!), they do a pretty good job. The staff are usually helpful and happy to change things around for you without any extra charge. Beware of teenage girls serving during school holidays though as they tend to be a bit stingy with the portions. Try to get one of the guys to serve you, much larger helpings.

No way. I rarely give low-rated reviews preferring to give the place a miss in future. I however had a horrific experience with the food, and was not feeling well later in the day. I don't know what was in my food, but let's just say that all was not as it should be, and I often think of myself as having an iron gut.
