Review Penaluna's Famous Fish & Chips - Hirwaun

Really friendly staff my order was take pretty quickly. Had to wait for fresh chips (absolutely no problem waiting). Prices are quite high- but I think at the moment that goes across the board with eating out. Battered sausage was nice, pie nice but the best bit was the Irish curry!!!

It was my first time at Penalunas Fish Bar and I ordered Cod and chips. The food was beautiful not overcooked or undercooked and it was cooked fresh. I even had a slice of lemon which you rarely get any more. The staff were friendly and extremely busy but still smiled. I will definitely be going there again.

At last now had the ultimate in Fish and chips. Flavor of the Cod and batter was outstanding. Had been recommended this restaurant for its quality and I can certainly vouch for it. Nice fast service Nice staff, clean and Tidy. Good menu choice, and it won't break the bank. certainly be back. And a photo of my Cod, chips and mushy peas.

Ordered via the website, friendly service and the food was ready when we got there for our allotted time. Delicious fish and chips, tasty curry sauce and battered Welsh cake was good too. Generous portions Recommended.

This is my favourite fish and chip shop I've ever been to- we visit it every time we go to Wales because it tastes INCREDIBLE. You can certainly understand why they've won so many awards, and the staff are always really friendly as well!

Ordered 11 fish and chips and various sauces for a small Christmas party. Food was piping hot and fresh. All ready to be picked up on time. Food was absolutely delicious. Would certainly recommend. We will definitely be ordering again very soon .

I love the fish & chips here the portion sizes are perfect, the batter on the fish is light & entirely edible. The chips are perfectly cooked (to my taste) & never contain horrible crunchy over cooked bits. The only chip shop where I can eat every last morsel of the food I purchase. Highly recommended without reservation

What a difference to ‘normal’ fish and chips. Lighter batter,much nicer fish than we’ve ever had and a lovely portion size. It’s quite our way but well worth the drive. Lovely family atmosphere too! Thank you Penalunas!

The food was amazing, especially the chips! Local people were friendly and Lindsey and Emily who served us were lovely. The drive from Bristol was definitely worth it. We will be back!

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to Lee and all the team for being such amazing wedding caterers. You did an outstanding job, and the food was delicious. All our guests were blown away and many made comments about how quickly the food came out and how nicely it was presented. It tasted amazing. We all loved your funky van too! We would highly recommend to anyone as wedding caterers as Lee was so accommodating and went above and beyond in the planning stages to make sure we had exactly what we wanted. Thanks once again. Called in 2 day 2 have my taco break and was very nice sausage egg and chips and a cup of tea lovely staff and a lovely meal will definitely call in again next time I am up that way keep up the good work and the place was very clean well done

Fabulous food and fabulous service. I wanted to try their gluten free fish so went walking in the Hirwaun area. Phoned 30 minutes before as required when I was on my way back. Ten minutes later we came across a man off his bike who needed an ambulance. We phoned the ambulance and waited with him an hour. I phoned the cafe and told of the delay. When we finally got there, they let us eat in the cafe area even though had been closed half hour and the fish had been well worth the trip to Hirwaun. Thank you very much. I will definitely come again but hopefully there will be less drama next time.

Lovlly breakfasts and lovlly fish n chips my lil dude ate it all never tried fish in batter and thougerlly enjoyed love it friendly staff too x

The 2nd best battered cod I've ever eaten..but given the best was the original Harry Ramsden's at Guiseley, that is a real compliment.

Decided to eat out and popped over from Ebbw vale to try out the fish shop but we should have stayed local the portion for standard chips were not a lot and the pie felt it had been left it the food warmer too long. The chips were nice otherwise

Absolutely gorgeously tasty chips and anything you have with them especially the fish. I particularly enjoyed the prosecco fish batter!
