I wasn't expecting such a great experience. We sat and they brought us some olives, then we ordered 2 spritz and a starter to share with burrata, mortadella, salame, sun-dried tomatoes and half focaccia. Then we had pasta (we advice the fusilli alla salsiccia, best salsiccia I had in Brighton). All very good, everything was fresh and tasty. The owners are really nice and kind. They also offered us 2 limoncelli. Really recommended!
Brilliant all homemade pasta. I had gnocchi & it was simply delicious. Service was gracious & while I probably could have paid less elsewhere, no where near as good.
Semola serves homemade pasta in an authentic italian style. Forget the plastic turnkey alternatives this place is the real deal.
Simple dishes, super tasty and super fresh.
The ambience is bright and airy.
Good selection of wine and desery options.
This is a very popular restaurant in Hove, and rightly so. You must book if you want to eat here!
Fortunately we did book, and what a wonderful meal we had.
I chose my favourite pasta dish, fusilli with a mushroom and white wine sauce. It was divine, absolute perfection. The sauce was delicious and the pasta cooked spot-on al dente. The best I have ever had, anywhere.
I also appreciated the fact that the portion was a sensible size, which meant that I didn’t waste half of it. So many pasta dishes are enormous. This was truly perfect in every way.
My husband had the risotto of the day, which he declared so delicious that he was tempted to order another portion!
Fortunately he didn’t, which meant we had room for the fabulous desserts and very good coffee.
We will definitely come back to this delightful restaurant, with its friendly staff and lovely ambiance.
Quite probably one of the best Italian meals I’ve had. The pasta was beautifully cooked and the sauce delicious. Make sure you have the sundried tomatoes, they taste like sunshine.
What a wonderful place! We had a lovely welcome, beautiful wine & complimentary olives, a charming Italian waiter & the most unbelievably stunning so obviously homemade pasta I’ve ever eaten.
Food was lovely, atmosphere was nice and the staff were great. We had the burrata and tried a couple of pastas. Definitely would recommend.
Having walked past the restaurant many times over the year it was time to go experience it for ourselves. My partner and myself were not left disappointed.
The fresh pasta was superb, big flavours and good size portions what more could you want. I honestly don’t know how they packed so much flavour into something as humble as these pasta dishes but they do it.
Let’s not forget the service, which was some of the friendliest we have ever had. A very warm welcome upon arrival followed by the perfect balance of being there when you need them but not asking “how’s the food” when you have a mouthful of said food.
I feel we shall be returning very soon be it to dine or as we found out to pick up some of their fresh pasta for home cooking.
A superb restaurant in the city.
We found this gem of a restaurant after searching online for somewhere in Brighton/Hove that made their own fresh pasta. Our expectations were high on arrival after reading the reviews, but were surpassed by our fantastic experience. We went for a late lunch on Saturay, sharing the mozarella /cold meat starter, followed by two pasta main courses. Everything was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and with generous portion sizes. Despite being full, we couldn't resist sharing a Tiramisu, which was light and tasty. And the excellent Sauvingnon Blanc was the finishing touch. The service was attentive and friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. We will definitely be returning and will recommend to others without hesitation.
Had lunch here today and was very impressed. Charming staff and made to feel very welcome. Excellent food and will definitely be returning.....
Visited Friday evening with our son and his girlfriend, we booked our table online which was very easy to do. For starters we shared the Antipasto platter which was plenty for the four of us, in fact we didn’t finish it all! It contained some lovely Italian cheese and cooked meats as well as complementary olives on the side. For mains 3 of us had different pasta dishes and my husband had a salad. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they were happy to adapt anything on the menu to our liking. Overall a great evening with great food and excellent customer service, we will definitely be back.
Food is always good and reasonable portions. Service is attentive and polite - pleasant eating experience all round.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Semola - the food is classic Italian, with fresh flavour and plenty of it. And make space for the desserts, which are delish. And they’re genuinely dog friendly, which is very welcome.
By far the best 'genuine' Italian restaurant in Brighton & Hove.
Homemade Pasta and very generous servings and a great Pizza, best we have had anywhere.
Great service, we will be back without a doubt.
Thank you 👍
First time at Semola and it won't be the last. Great service, food incredibly cooked, great veggie options for 2 of our party. Lovely little place
Second visit to Semola booked a table for the evening this time, yet again it was a great experience very tasty food friendly cheerful staff and a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Definitely highly recommend.
Went for an early christmas treat with a friend who is vegan and had a great evening .
Not busy as early evening but service friendly and helpful
My friend had a vegan pasta dish with mushrooms which she said was great and I had a mushroom risotto which was delicious lots of cheese and mushrooms dish was rich and creamy far to large for and took half of it home which my husband had for his lunch the next day .
Really enjoyable evening would recommend
Lovely, helpful staff and great food. Definitely will visit again. Went with family for 5pm dinner (young children) after booking online. Nice response from the restaurant. Greeted warmly.
It was a friends choice and I was so impressed with the food, I cannot stop raving about it. Thoroughly enjoyed my evening, the staff were attentive and pleasant. But the food was outstanding.
My wife and I visited Semola for dinner. The staff (all dressed in flat caps) were very friendly, avuncular and Italian - and very accommodating. The place itself is quite brightly lit - more of a bar than a restaurant. The menus were a little grubby-looking and the food was mainly pastas and salads.
The Octopus starter was OK and my main dish (fusilli arrabiata) was tasty, if a little on the small side. For the same price I can get double the portion at Marocco's or Otello's, although not as tasty. This was definitely a case of quantity over quality. Nice tiramisu and a grappa to finish.
Overall, a pleasant experience - OK food, nice staff and not too expensive.
