I hadn't been to a Merrie England coffee shop for a number of years, but I was pleasantly surprised last week when I revisited the one situated in Kirkgate In Huddersfield town centre. Nice helpful and welcoming staff, and delicious toasted hot beef and onion sandwiches. Well worth a visit.

Apart from McDonalds it was the only place at 7:30am I found open . Pleasantly surprised at quality of food. Coffee beans replenished whilst I was waiting to be served by Grumpy Mule Beans (a Huddersfield Locala coffee company - free trade too)

The best coffee house in town. Their bakery counter is full of favorites and the service is great with friendly helpful staff. Lovely old world charm.
I will never forget the first time I popped in for a break during shopping. I had a delicious apple pie with tea.
Prices are decent too.

Love Merrie England, I think I can safely say I've been in them all now, and it's always the same. Good quality food and good staff. How a coffee shop should be.

I always enjoy going to this Merrie England cafe outside of the packhorse. The staff are always happy and friendly.
It is such a quaint coffee shop and there is always plenty of room to sit.
Lots of choice to choose from would definitely recommend.

Quaint old-fashioned coffee shop serving good coffee and homemade cakes. Pleasant staff. If eating here, expect traditional options (i.e. hot beef sandwich, apple pie etc.). Reasonably priced.

We always visit when in Huddersfield, great tea and coffee and they also do a fantastic BLT. There was a mix up on my order today and the customer service with it was fantastic...lovely staff and a friendly place to grab a cuppa and food.

So I come into merry England on new street asked for a warm chocolate brownie and cream they didn't put enough cream on and has to go ask for more cream as the brownie was very dry and they charged me 70p for the tiniest bit of cream ever not happy

Went shopping in Huddersfield for the first time on Xmas eve and found a merrie England inside a little shopping arcade, and gave it a go as we'd thought it'd be something different from the typical Starbucks. The food quality was ok (cheese special) and the hot chocolate was good. However, the ladies that work there need some serious lessons in what customer service is in 2016 else I'd guess they'll run it into the ground. We didn't know the cheese special came on a tea cake and as she was slicing it just asked "will that be toasted".. To which she quipped in a most abrupt manner "yep, that's what you asked for". Then I asked the other lady that was taking my money for a hot chocolate and a tea and there was no pleasantries just a "large, small?" Again in a very abrupt, disgusting manner. You'd have thought you'd have just walked into a Tudor style soup kitchen with the attitude they have and not somewhere where you're actually paying them for the privilege. Shame, because it does kind of have a niché but I think to survive, this business would need to start again with it workforce.
