Stayed 2 nights (mon and weds) Very friendly , nice rooms with comfy beds. Excellent dinner particularly sea bass with Parmesan risotto. Bit disappointed with first breakfast - eggs royale - as poached egg was hard and muffin rather dry. However haddock with poached eggs(asked specially for soft yolks) was lovely second time. Bar and lounge seems very popular and busy, always a good sign. Would stay again and recommend to friends.
Could not ask for a better place to stay. Wonderful room with an amazing bath. Great staff with a lovely atmosphere and the food is great. Visit it 😃👍🌟
Having passed this place many times, I called in for a meal last night.
What a gem !. Ordered a pint of Taylors Best (Mary Jane and others also available). Was shown to a table, and ordered to start 'Confit duck and peanut spring rolls with a plum chutney' (£6.95) followed by one of their fish specials form the blackboard 'Salmon and Sea Bass fillets with asparagus and bearnaise sauce' (one of the more expensive options at £16.95).
Waitress came with bread, two nice thick pieces of rustic bread, one white one brown, and both butter and the olive oil /balsamic vinegar.
Whe the spring rolls came , there were four, rather over the top, as for a starter two would have been sufficient, and with a pile of crisp salad and the plum dressing as well. Delicious, I had no problem eating all four.
The fish main was also a delight, two small fillets each of sea bass and salmon, with a couple of asparagus spears, and some bearnaise sauce in a pot. A side dish of carrots and broccoli also presented.
Thoroughly enjoyable.
Bill £26.95. It was as I was paying that I realised that the Wheatley was also residential. Readers of my reviews will know I stay in the area two nights nearly every week (Mainly at Chevin Country Park Hotel Otley, or Rombalds in Ilkley or occasionally Harrgate or Knaresborough, see my reviews of these hotels) However when I asked about room rates, £80 B & B for a single to me is too much for what is essentially a pub. (I pay £70 at the Chevin) I am sure the rooms will be clean and well appointed, but I would have expcted them to be maybe £60-65 for a single.
I am awarding 5 stars for the meal, but I suspect that had I stayed there, maybe only 4 stars as a hotel because of the price.
Within the last few weeks I now found and reviewed three pubs in the area with really good food., the other two being the The Black Horse at Askwith and the Fox at Menston. I now have a quandary which to go back to !
The Wheatley is a great pub with good beer and wine. The food is also great with all the current classics such as belly pork and fish and chips. They also have a range of gluten free options including gluten free bread available on request. The atmosphere is great but I would recommend booking on or Friday or Saturday night. If you have to stay the night in the Leeds area I would recommend the executive room which has a double ended bath and its own deck.
Very impressed.
We went last night after having various friends recommend the place.
Can't fault it!
Excellent food and drink.
Reasonably priced.
Very high standard of presentation throughout.
Friendly and interested staff.
Nice atmosphere and busy on a Saturday night (best to book)
Honestly don't think it could have been any better.
We will be going again.
Out of about 6/7 pubs in the group, (Individual Inns), this is the most modern. The others are very traditional. However, this is just great. The Manager knows how to deal with people in an old fashioned way, ie, he's bloody good. Good beer, good dining and, I suspect, the rooms are well up to scratch.
We were welcomed by a smiling receptionist and it just kept getting better. She booked us in for dinner and made sure we had everything we needed.
Great breakfasts and evening meals. Very helpful staff. Clean rooms.
We booked The Wheatley for our wedding celebration in may and it was fantastic!
They were really accommodating with planning our special day which was a little outside of their usual sit down wedding affair.
They gave us free rein to decorate the gorgeous garden room and outside as we wished and they also created a fantastic pizza and sides buffet for us which went down a storm after a warm afternoon of drinking and partying.
The rooms are beautifully decorated and the bridal suit has a fantastic decking area giving that extra room for all the bridesmaid and family to come get ready too!
Carol (the manager) was helpful throughout and was very calm and level headed! She even managed to keep our surprise singing waiters a secret too! We really appreciated that!
The bar was always fully stocked annd service was fast , no one had any issues with getting what they wanted!
We had had worries that if the weather was bad we wouldn’t be able to have our ceremony outside like we wanted but Carol assured us that if it were bad, we could put the sides of the large canopy down and everyone would be sheltered. Fortunately this didn’t have to happen but it’s great to know there is an option.
We also have been offered a free stay over one year on from our wedding day as part of our package and we are really looking forward to it!
Thanks again for all your help in creating a fantastic day we will remember forever.
If you are looking for a relaxed wedding or party I would 100% recommend The Wheatley Arms x
I didn't stay over but I go about once a week and it's just great there! I've tried a few beers and they have a great selection. Tasty snacks like nuts and crisps but also bar snacks to order! I now often get a coffee and it's really tasty, again lots of choice and different milks to choose from too. Reasonable prices. If they're not too busy they bring my coffee to the table too and usually with a small piece of cake to nibble on the side. Would definitely recommend this hotel/pub/restaurant to anyone for any reason.
Beautiful room in a stunning location. Large clean room, gorgeous decking area to sit out in the sunshine. Comfortable bed and lovely bathroom.
Plentiful and tasty breakfast
Only downside was that the fridge in the room was noisy through the night, and the sash window didn't stay propped open.
Great pub whether you are just going for a drink, a meal or staying. The food and service is v good. The rooms are lovely. Staff friendly and cheerful.
Happy to hear that the planned refurb includes a lift as my knees are becoming v creaky. But please don't change the character of the pub. It's lovely as it is.
I eat at the Wheatley regularly. The staff are friendly, the menu is nice and the food is always good, sometimes exceptional. We ate as a group of 11 last night and were made to feel welcomed and had a great evening. Thank you to Emma and her team.
A lovely hotel with good food and friendly & efficient staff.
Our room was good and the package was great value.
Would readily recommend and will be happy to return 😊
I'd been longing for time off and hoping I'd love The Wheatley Arms (you know how it can be touch and go when you just pick a hotel and hope!) and relax and I did: elegant yet homely, tempting food to everyone's taste (omnivore, vegan - everyone catered for), everyone in the team headed by the warm, funny and charming
Carol could not do enough for us (plus extras like the caramel wafer in the fridge which greeted us on returning from our days out!) Will be back again and again, thank you so much for such a recuperative and relaxing break - home from home.
Had a super lunch here last Friday, the chef is very talented. Don't usually have a starter but had to try the Black Pudding with crispy bacon, creamy dijon sauce, topped with a poached egg. It was fabulous, will return again just for that! Main courses were great, fish&chips, and cajun chicken burger, both delicious. The bar is a joint hotel reception and you have to order at the bar, but not busy so perfectly fine. Will be back.
Lovely pub with great food and comfortable well equipped rooms. Friendly and efficient staff. Great location for town and country walks.
