Despite this long time cafe being off the beaten track I was surprised to see they are still serving the motoring/cycling public. Chatty and welcoming staff and a large menu offering full English to pie and mash but was flabbergasted to discover that there was no signs of any cake being available, luckily there was a defibrillator outside which was used to bring me out of my state of shock.

Be prepared for a cozy experience! The tables inside are quite close together as it is a small cafe after all. The outside tables are a better option if the weather is fine.
Prices have gone up due to the financial pressures that everyone is feeling but the Facebook page still shows the old (very attractive) prices. Food and service are good and there are a constant flow of visitors as it appears to be on a popular cycle route as well as just off the main road between Chelmsford and Ongar/Harlow.
