Fantastic over night stay in snug 5, the staff were really friendly and attentive. Had meal in the pub on the night, food was gorgeous and they even made us sausage sandwich the next day for breakfast. Would definitely recommend here.
We have just returned after an overnight stay in snug 4 and I can not find a single fault. Check in was very easy with staff showing us to our snug, the room was fantastic with exposed brick and beams along with a feature staircase, the bed was extremely comfortable and the bath was incredible, a large deep bath in the bedroom. Everything about the room was perfect. We also booked in at the restaurant and the food and service was amazing it’s a definite must. Sophie looked after us during our stay and she was fantastic, very friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble.
Overall our stay at Romney’s was faultless. And we will definitely be returning!
What can I say about this place! We both loved it!
We were away for a very rare child free weekend and stayed up the road. We were going to eat dinner at the hotel, but I had a Google for eating establishments around the area and found this gem!
Great atmosphere in the place, awesome pub, quirky and busy! The staff were all super friendly and attentive!
We order food and it came quickly, great tasting! We tried each others and both loved both dishes! If you're in the area, make sure yous top in here, we both can't wait to go back!
Fantastic place to eat and enjoy a drink. Service was fantastic, all the staff friendly and helpful. Play area outside to keep the kids entertained.

You might be surprised as you enter the front of Romneys, as inside it's very nicely laid out and light, with interesting decor. This includes a glass floor over the wine cellar. The staff were extremely efficient and pleasant. The menu was varied, and portions were good. Hearty food, so good after a walk. The local ales were well kept. All in all this is a very nice place to eat and drink.
Steak and Ale pie was nice, as was veggie lasagne. Chips served with both, very nice. Dessert portions were large and tasty. Staff friendly if not a slightly rushed. Decent prices for the quantity of food.
Had a couple of meals that were pretty good. Also stayed in the accommodation. We stayed in one of the "snugs" and for a few nights they are perfectly fine. We stayed in No1 and are a family of 4 with two children in their teens. Two bunk type beds and up a wooden spiral stair case a room with a large double bed. The bathroom was upstairs too. Our accommodation didn't have a shower but only a bath which was somewhat inconvenient. The place was decorated to a good standard but I wouldn't recommend it for families with toddlers or older adults. After several beers in the pub downstairs climbing up the spiral staircase required concentration. We enjoyed our stay and the location is pretty good for walking into town and exploring. Also good to have the pub down below. We weren't disturbed by it in the evenings.

Can be busy & a little noisy in eating areas at times. If you want a quiet area for two say before booking. Don't think dogs allowed in All areas.
Two friends and I came to Kendal in February 2023 to watch AFC Liverpool play one of their away games, we called in to Romney's, thought the surroundings and the menu looked very nice and decided to get a meal. We were very impressed with the food and service that on return to Kendal this July for the latest game against Kendal (this time there was 4 in our party) we called in again and enjoyed another meal. We all would recommend this fine establishment, Romney's 🙂
Romneys is absolutely amazing! This is the first pub we visited when we came to the Lake District and it did not disappoint and the food was amazing and the staff were lovely and helpful.
Smart pub, play area, food and real ales. Outside seating, and a large car park. Prices not too expensive
Romney's had been recommended to us. And we weren't disappointed at all. In fact it was a lovely experience. Food was tasty, service was excellent and we enjoyed the whole atmosphere!! I had fish and chips and my husband had hunters chicken. We were so full we couldn't quite manage a dessert but our choice would have been apple crumble!!
We had been staying in Kendal overnight in a local hotel. When we are in the area again we will definitely return here.
