Lovely place, very friendly staff, I could take my doggy in the bar area and treats were available for her. A very nice pint of Thwaites and a gorgeous meal ... I don't live locally but I would definitely go again when I am in the area and would highly recommend. Thank you to all the lovely staff :-)
Just had the most amazing meal in lovely surroundings. Ordered a gluten free roast beef and it was the best I have ever had. I was so impressed that they had even made me a Yorkshire pudding and the beef just melted in my mouth. In fact every part of it was delicious. My mum also loved her liver. As well as tasting my beef. We will definitely be back.
We had Sunday dinner here yesterday. I can honestly say it was THE best Sunday lunch I have ever had. We eat out a lot, and this was our first time here as it was recommended by our hosts. It is a beautiful old building. We did book as we did not know how busy it might be. When we arrived we were seated straight away. We could see that the staff were very busy, but they did not make us feel as if this was the case. We both ordered the Lamb Sunday roast, which was utterly delicious. I can't sing the praises of this place high enough. So much so we were back again the next day.
Lovely helpful staff.
Nice clean dining rooms.
Best Sunday lunch I have ever had .. well done chef.
Dog friendly.
An absolutely beautiful place to stay, the rooms are clean and well designed, they use local products made in the Lake District for soap and coffee, the staff are very friendly and the view is pretty. It is near a motorway but it looks very pretty at night with all the cars and lights going past and you can't really hear it when your inside. Will definitely be staying again 💕
Recently spent three days at this delightful Hotel......cannot fault anything about it...room was clean, decorated superbly and was very comfortable .....service was impeccable, nothing was too much trouble, .....bar and food were excellent.
Location was ideal.
We would highly recommend The Gateway Inn to anyone .....we will return definitely.
Excellent food and lovely setting. Just a shame the waitresses obviously don’t get on well, kept openly disagreeing at volume for the whole pub to hear. Also overheard one waitress tell the supervisor she just needs to ‘slap a smile on’ to get tips from customers. Real shame as the food is delicious and they allow dogs.
We stopped for lunch and the Gateway inn is conveniently situated just of the main road in an elevated position with a good view of the surrounding hillls. A warm welcome was given and the service was excellent. The Menu offered a good choice including starters, light lunches, main course and dessert. The 'feather blade' steak was superb. A relaxed, friendly and professional experience was had. Will call again
We found this place on Wednesday June 21st after being let down by a room cancellation at another hotel in Kendal. I wish I had booked The Gateway in the first place, such a welcoming and pleasant experience following a 200 mile drive en-route from Wales to Scotland.
The two young ladies on duty that evening were friendly, professional, and everything was explained to us, so we didn't have to ask about anything.
The food was good, the views are lovely, the hotel is situated on a hill and is clean throughout, It's a lovely place to stay and only a short drive from Lake Windermere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely book The Gateway again.
Location is ideal. Friendly team. Attention to all details. Accomodation was cozy, modern and rustic at once. Had a family room - Perfect for a family of 4. Restaurant is charming with great menu.
I had lunch here with five friends and we really enjoyed our afternoon. The food was nice and reasonably priced. Staff friendly and efficient. Nicely situated there is seating outside too.
Welcoming and friendly staff. Varied menu and selection of drinks. Room was comfortable and quiet. Would definitely stay there again.
