After dropping my son to the railway station I searches for somewhere to have a hit to eat before a long drive. The reviews looked good so I set off. I would have driven past if it want for Google! It is easy to access on the main road with good amount of parking. The interior was as tired as the exterior but as soon as I opened the door the staff were delightfully welcoming. They couldn't have been more helpful I don't think. The food was delicious and a big portion of it. There was an outside space to sit in too. All in all a pleasant surprise and a strong recommendation from me.

Great meal at the Punchbowl, it was our first visit. Great service, great food, pleasant atmosphere, good size car park. It was lunch time when we visited. Ideal to pop in for lunch, not far from Kendal, we'll worth a visit.

Lovely little pub serving good home made food. Called after a walk up The Helm near Barrows Green, Kendal. We sat outside in their beer garden with our 2 dogs, but apparently they do take dogs inside in the bar area. We had a pint of Theakston & A bottle of Sol. Apparently it’s a very good pint here. Followed by a pint of Pale Ale (not sure which), again a very good pint apparently. The pub was busy serving Sunday lunches, looked lovely but we didn’t eat, we’ll have to return another day. The beer garden is quite a basic beer garden (next to the A65 Kendal Rd), it’s secure & fenced in, there’s 1 area with a few wooden garden benches & also a stone gravelled area with rattan tables/chairs. Our dogs loved it as in the garden of the house next door they keep chickens, so the dogs were kept entertained watching the chickens through a tiny gap in the fence.

After a nice walk we went to The Punchbowl, where we had an excellent meal. Service was very good and the four main meals we chose were all extremely good. It was a good choice of a place to eat Sunday lunch and we’ve now booked to stay there two nights later on in the year.

We parked in the Punch Bowl car park to go for a walk at The Helm near Kendal, as recommended by a website showing good walks in the Lakes. Felt a bit bad just using the car park so on our return from the walk (which was brilliant, amazing views for quite a short walk) the pub was open so we popped in for a pint and some food. We received a really warm welcome even with three large dogs, and the food was generous and delicious. Definitely recommend a visit.

Evening meal out - this place has a small menu compared to some....however....the meals were really substantial and totally delicious.....lambs liver melted in the mouth, gammon thick, lean and tasty and home made steak pies !!!!! Lovely atmosphere and staff so friendly.....a real gem.m

Had drinks in here a couple of times during our stay at Helm lodge. Had a meal here with a group of 18 celebrating a 60th birthday. Service was excellent and all the staff were polite, helpful and friendly. We didn't make it easy for them as there was a mix up with some of the meals (our fault) they didn't complain and gave what we ordered without fuss. The food was lovely and very generous portions 4 of our party stayed at the hotel and were happy with their rooms and the service. The Punch Bowl has a nice friendly atmosphere and we all felt comfortable there.
