Old Grey Mare

When travelling back from Scotland to the ferry in Harwich we stopped at this hotel. The rates where good and it looked nice. I loveplaces like this! I love the atmosphere and the people are always nice. The room was allright. I dont expect much from a place like this. And I kinda was right. The rooms where clean, beds where fine but the place needs a nice upkeep. My thing is showers! It was full of lime. The showerhead a black muck in the small holes. Coulndt stand up right cause the hose was to short. We thought it was hillarious that we had room nr 1, but we were all the way in the back. Had to go through 9 doors and up and down 9 steps. With our suitcases. We had a good laugh. The pub was nice, the food was what to be expected of pubfood. It was fine. We did a nice pubquiz and they knew we were local so they came up and explained the rules. A good experience in my book.

I had chicken strips and chips and side salad 🥗, the salad had too much dressing on I would have preferred to add my own dressing the chips had lots of eyes in them and we're quite hard a too crunchy , my fellow colleagues had steak 🥩 and chips , I gave my side salad to one of them , the person had gammon and chips , both said there chips were okay , maybe I drew the short straw when they were serving chips .4/5 , the music 🎵🎶 came blasting out as soon as I was seated I was sat under a speaker , so not very pleasant to have a conversation , we asked for the music to be lowered and they obliged. It wasn't super busy for a Thursday tea time , but just right for us .I would return again , but maybe go and order my own food rather than asking someone else to order for me .4/5

We stayed two nights the first night was a disaster as we were put in room 1 unfortunately it is next to the coolers ,which we were told it went off at 10pm but it didn't it drowned all night . Next morning complained and no problem they moved us to a different room . So all was well .Enjoyed the rest of our stay so would recommend The Old Grey Mare for a reasonable stay and food.

Only here for 1 night, room decent enough. Nice pub, lots of TVs so I could watch the match while having my meal. Staff all pleasant, place nice and clean. Food was spot on, maybe next time I shouldn't have the XL mixed grill, a little bit too much for me today. Download the season pass while here and you get 1st drink free and 10% off the rest.
