Such a cute atmospheric place. Will go again one day to sample food. Locals were friendly. Highly recommend
Super friendly. Celebrating a birthday lunch. Lovely vibe.
From starter through to dessert, all delicious
My spouse and I live in CA, USA and are visiting family in the area so we stopped off in wonderful Lavenham for a little breather from it all. We had no firm plans in mind. We parked on Lady St only to discover this charming restaurant. We rolled the dice and we won BIG! As soon as we entered we were warmly greeted by the hostess (we later found out that this was the owner) and were immediately offered the courtesy of choosing the perfect dining spot (under the chimney). The staff timed everything perfectly, from offering us the delightful menu to walking us thru their specials to providing us with olives and bread as well as drinks. The staff were menu-literate, sharing stories of the local suppliers for their mainly local ingredients. You know you're in for a treat when the staff are proud of their establishment. The menu provided a selection of the finest local fair. I ordered the calf liver and my spouse ordered the steak and ale pie. Perfect portions. Food was delivered in a timely manner and the flavors were pitch perfect. My first bite forced me to stop chewing for half a minute while I savored the perfectly cooked liver, caramelized onions and the red wine jus (I'm drooling writing this review). The wine selection was on point and made for a great accompaniment to the meal. This place vibes hard! After our main course we were offered the dessert menu, which was crafted to represent the very best of East Anglia and English summers. We had the rhubarb ginger sponge tart with a helping of custard that was rooted in our childhood. Perfect color, consistency and temperature. We also polished off the berry summer pudding which reminded me of long summer days of lawn tennis and nap times under the shade of an oak tree. I should have worn my old boating jacket and Lord's tie. Perfection. Drank an espresso to top it all off followed by a short tour of the modest kitchen where I had the opportunity to express my gratitude to the 2 wonderful chefs. The owners were there to see us off to add a personal touch to a memorable experience. Can't wait to re-visit Lavenham just so I can try the rest of the menu.
Three of us had Sunday lunch here after a recommendation. I can only say it was the best experience for years. Greeted at the door in a friendly manner by the staff and asked if we wanted some pre-drinks at the bar before moving through to be seated. The atmosphere is really charming and they haven't tried to pack in as many diners as they can, it feels airy and not cramped. Service was prompt, the staff were exceptionally polite and attentive and the prices were sensible. The food that came out of the kitchen was hot and all arrived at once with three different dishes chosen. If I could give 6 stars for the food I would, a truly excellent experience and one that we'll be returning to again.
We ate here with another couple and had a lovely evening. Food was good, two of us had steak which was cooked beautifully and came with generous portions of veg, also had mushroom on toast starter which was creamy and on tasty bread. Boozy cherry tart was a winning dessert as was the banana and toffee cheesecake. Wine as you would expect was good quality. Service was friendly, they forgot a glass of wine ordered at the table but were quick to rectify and service was efficient in everything else. We had three courses with two of us drinking wine. If you are a larger group you will be in a private room and asked to pre order from the menu as it is a medieval building with a domestic sized kitchen. Overall an atmospheric venue, friendly efficient service, tasty menu and great wine. We will be back.
Cosy restaurant serving great food. The team were fantastic, and it genuinely felt like they are happy to work there.
You will need to book in advance to ensure a table.
Well done No10.
Dropped in for lunch while staying at the Swan which is opposite. Been a few times before and as always this place is fantastic on every level. Staff as amazing, great wines and food was fabulous.
We both had fish pies, all home made, delicious.
We sat in the courtyard which had a bit of buzz and at the same time felt indulgent and romantic.
Wish I was more local, but will definitely come here again. Highly recommended
We were made very Welcome! We hadn't booked and it was very busy so they suggested to come back an hour later.
There was a lovely atmosphere and the food was great.
Nothing was too much trouble and we all had a lovely time!
Me my wife and Bella
( the dog ) had a fantastic experience.
Very dog friendly, lovely staff really good gluten free options and delicious food can't complain.
We are coming back 😁
Good food, very friendly service. Dog friendly environment. (We took dog bed in as it settles dog down, staff found us appropriate table so we could all sit comfortably). Dog was bought some gravey bones. Small courtyard well done.
Had a good evening here. Would use again. Old beam and plaster building. Decor fitting to building. Lots of smaller rooms for dining. Feels very cosy. Staff very friendly (and have a sense of humour!) and where effective without being overpowering. We started in back courtyard but where quickly found a suitable table indoors when it began to rain.
All in all, enjoyed visit and would use again.
