Fine Dining in Leicester! We visited here for Valentine’s Day and were blown away by both the quality of the food/wine and the excellent service. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome and had champagne at the bar before being shown to our table. The dining room had such a cosy atmosphere. The food was something else! We had a 5 course tasting menu and chose paired wines to go with each course. This is the best food I’ve ever tasted outside London and I would thoroughly recommend it. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and explained each course and paired wine. A truly wonderful experience.

I'd be having to dig very deep to find a negative or criticism about this place. From the off the service was impeccable, the lady at the front of house was warm welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere, though quiet (it was a wednesday) was cosy and intimate. The cocktails were delish, if a little strong for me, but their gin is a must! The wine list was extensive with all the classics and more. I had forest mushrooms stilton and walnuts on ciabatta, my mum the scallops and chorizo; both were excellent with the scallops cooked exceptionally well. We both had duck for the main; I could have done with it slightly pinker, and the fat rendered a bit more (nit-picking here) but it was super tasty and even the side vegetables were crunchy and delicious! The pudding was divine, I had the apple tarte tatin and the pastry was just another level! The brownie my mum had was crispy on top and gooey in the middle, perfect. And to accompany it all a delicious bottle of sauvignon blanc! All in all a great experience and will definitely be recommending, by far one of the best restaurants in the city if not county too.

Great find. From entering to leaving the staff could not be more friendly, the place was spotless, not sure how long it has been around but looks new. The food was very good and not shy on the portion size. The pork belly starter was amazing, cooked to perfection, very well presented.. My Hereford 30 Day steak melted in my mouth. Partner had scallops and chorizo to start with and was very happy, looked very appetising. His main, was lamb three ways, again, portion size was very good and not a bit left. I was too full for dessert, however, partner had the cheeseboard....this was the only part he was disappointed in, apart from the cheddar the rest were bland, and we have never been offered the type of cheese I associate with a Xmas cheeseboard, I.e. a white cheese with pineapple in it! He described it as vile! Don’t dwell on the cheeseboard, this place is first class and we will be back....would not be surprised if this chef is on The next Masterchef!

Every time we return to North we find it seems to be better than the last visit, which was brilliant, how is that? Last night the prawns were superb with a bisque to die for, best I’ve tasted with medley of spice and chilli tickling my tongue. Medley of fish perfect to look at and taste and Old Spot pork a delight, tender and comforting. The other thing we love is the local fresh vegetables another reason to eat here. The wine list is not extensive but every one seems chosen with the food in mind. The Lodi Zinfandel we drank was gorgeous. Finally thanks to warm attentive staff. Whenever we leave we think why didn’t we come back sooner? We will.

16 of us went for a birthday meal and the food and service were brilliant. I had scallops as starter and they were perfectly cooked. The bream I had as a main was lovely as well. My wife had pork belly and the lamb. These were amazing as well. It is well worth a visit and we will be returning soon. Thanks to the staff and management for a special night!

Another great evening at North. We are regular Michelin Foodies and this is up there. Had the Taster Menu, great innovation and presentation and clearly High quality ingredients. The Pork dish was fabulous and cooked to perfection - thumbs up to the Chefs. Also enjoyed great wine and Amazing Gin - if you’ve not tried their 42 Gin - it’s a must. Bought a bottle too at the end of the night. Great staff and attentive with great product knowledge. Best restaurant in Leicester.

Until Saturday night this was our favourite restaurant in Leicester and because of this we booked it with two like minded friends for our Christmas meal. The night started reasonably although we were disappointed with the meagre portions served on the £30 gin board. Service was slow . Three of us ordered goats cheese souflee. Two of these were sunken, stuck to the sides with the texture of soggy Yorkshire puddings. There was little sign of any cheese. Again, three of us ordered a dish with pork loin and pork belly. The loin was tragically overcooked. The belly was miniscule. I pointed out the visibly over cooked loin to a waitress and eventually she told us that the chef was cooking new ones. By this time we had eaten over half of the remaining edible food so we declined. What good is pork loin on its' own? Two of us had the cheese board. The cheddar was ok but the stilton and brie tasted as if they had just come from a supermarket shelf. The bill came to around £220 with wine. Not unreasonable for a well cooked three course meal for four but totally overpriced for the mediocre and partially inedible stuff that we were served with. Sadly I don't think that any of us will be going back.

We have been to Norths a number of times since my last review so I thought it is time for an update. The Norths Sunday lunch is a real delight that never disappoints, from the welcome and professional explanation of the menu and specials all the way though the well cooked and presented food to the departure, it is a delightful experience. At £22.00 for 2 courses it is great value for money considering the quality of the food and service. We always assumed it was booking only but we noticed some walk ins but I would always book even if was during the service because from about 1pm it was getting busy. It is so nice to see a restaurant of such quality in Leicester doing well. Looking forward to revisiting soon

We ate here for a birthday Sunday lunch, the food and service was fantastic. Everyone in the group said it was either the best Sunday lunch they'd ever had or at the least the best they could remember. I'll definitely be going back soon.

Me and my husband went on a wednesday evening, there was only one other table seated. Upon arrival we was made to feel very welcome. We sat down and chosen our food. I went for the seabream and my husband had the lamb The presentation was lovely and the food was so tasty. We ordered sides to go with the meal. Although it was a Wednesday we had a bottle of wine too, we tried another sample wine too. The pudding my husband had was a platter, he loves puddings and was very impressed especially by the chocolate brownie. Really enjoyed the evening and the food was perfect Thank you.

We visited here last Sunday, we had heard how nice the Sunday lunch was and we weren’t disappointed It was a lovely meal, it’s the best Sunday roast I’ve had in ages, it’s not the cheapest at £22 for two courses but it’s been the best in a living time The services was very friendly and helpful Keep up the good work

We visited North Bar to celebrate our friends birthday. Large group but the staff were excellent in dealing with us as well as the rest of the restaurant diners. Food Michelin standard, the chef came to say Hello - lovely touch! Cant wait to return in a few weeks.

Four of us dined and all agreed our starters were superb. Main courses were exquisite but sadly the desserts were only very good! Small restaurant, small menu with food extremely well cooked and presented, plenty of room at the table and a great buzz. i thought I should write a bad review so i can keep the place to mysekf, but thought better of it!

6 of us went to North Bar & Kitchen last night - a get together with our bestie from Oz. 4 of the guests were North Bar virgins. We were greeted, and served the restaurant's own signature (bespoke) gin - North42. It is quite beyond description in its deliciousness (is that even a word?). We were advised to have a taste before adding mixers - which we did - I I had mine straight! We ordered from the menu, which did take some time, because there were so many enticing dishes to choose from. We decided to go straight for main courses, and were duly warned that it would be about 1/2 an hour before we ate. Perfect, we agreed. After a while, we were shown to our table, offered wine and water. A quick show of hands, and we opted for a tasty Argentine Malbec - most of the diners had gone for Sirloin or lamb. We were soon eating our individual dishes and, well, OMG! They were truly superb. Every element on the dish was sumptuous, and absolutely perfectly cooked. That's right - good old fashioned cooking - no nitrogen spewing out, no water baths, no gismos, but perfectly cooked, seasoned and flavoured food, presented perfectly. Sauces were glossy and rich; sides were hot, fresh and perfect accompaniments. The Dauphinoise was perfectly rich and creamy, with feuillettes of potatoes: so thin, they the layers of potato were as thin as puff pastry layers - quite lovely. Those who had desserts were also overwhelmed with the number of tastes and textures. An absolute triumph. There are now four new devotees to this pearl of a restaurant. I'm not sure why Michelin keeps overlooking this place; the food is most definitely worthy of rosettes. Come on Michelin: do the right thing!

We all agreed that the vegan and meat 5 course tasting menu with paired wines was delicious. I loved every vegan mouthful from the exotic mushrooms to the chickpea meringue with mango. Son said it was the best pork he’d ever tasted and although husband hates rhubarb, he wolfed his panne cotta with rhubarb ice cream. The service was attentive and good explanations. I’d have liked a bit more time between courses but we were a little late and the last to leave. We’ll be back.
