Had a nice dinner at Kayal. I wanted the appam and it was just perfect here. The chicken stew was a nice side for the appam. Authentic south indian cusine!. I would definitely visit this often
We always used to visit the place to have good South Indian food along with Tilapia fish. Their way of cooking fish is very good, even cheaper variants of fish are tasty in their curry.
Absolutely stunning restaurant with wide range of food and enormous portions. The staff are very attentive and knowledgeable. Have been at least 10 times and every time brilliant .meen pollichathu and the stuffed sea bass is something to look forward for.
Tucked away at the corner of Granby Street next to Sainsbury and bang opposite to Premier Inn, Kayal has apparently existed since 2005. It's a small restaurant with a big heart. Wooden interiors and carvings give it an aesthetic decor. The service is exemplary and the stewards are friendly. The food is mild when compared to their variants we eat in India or in the Middle East, obviously tempered down for the European palette, but it's just the degree of heat that's lower. Otherwise the taste is authentic. The parathas and appams are fabulous. I recommend their Mussels Molee and Cheera Erachi (boneless lamb curry). Cost for a couple £40.
Went to this restaurant with family on a Saturday for lunch. We had searched a lot for a good authentic kerala restaurant around Milton Keynes and found none. Hence, while searching on the net came across Kayal in Leicester. The service was very good however the menu didn't meet our expectation. We ordered for a Vegetarian Sadhya feast. It said Sadhya but some of the key Sadhya dishes like pulicheri, rasam were missing. However, the food tasted good. And it was indeed a feast to the stomach with generous quantity. The choice of dishes in a Sadhya could have been better.
Worth waiting for. A few times I have tried to book a table at KAYAL, but it was always fully booked. Me and my friends decided to take a chance and turn up without a reservation. We arrived just after 8 pm, and we were asked to wait for 15 mins, but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were very attentive, the food beautifully cooked and perfectly spiced. I strongly recommend trying it!
Amazing food. Authentic and excellent value. Compared to other restaurants I always feel under-charged!
This is one of the best places to eat in Leicester. The food is spectacular and original. The king fish curry might be the tastiest things ever created. Go! Try it! The service is friendly and while it can seem a little slow it's worth it. Everything tastes fresh and is certainly worth a little wait. They do take away, sadly they don't deliver, as of they did I don't think I'd ever eat anything else ever again.
I have eaten many Dosa before but never seen one quite as big as this. It was literally bigger than my head, almost half the length of the table. I had to stand up and take several steps back to get it all in the photograph and the only option when it came to eating it was to start from the middle since both ends hung off the plate.
This really opened my eyes to Keralan cuisine. It was much more delicate, fragrant and fresh than the UK curry house norm, and - for me - all the better for it.
It was my first visit and there was no room for disappointment. Right from entry to exit...it was perfect. The staff's were polite and helpful. The food was awesome and came in good portion. Highly recommended.
Lovely unusual Indian restaurant with good ambience, excellent service and some unusual dishes from southern india. Sea food is particularly good. Dosa was a let down as it was not crispy and quite oily. Lots of vegetarian options. Advisable to book as they have just won the Leicestershire curry awards and can be busy.
Chose to eat here, before a trip to the Little Theatre. What a great place! We arrived just as they opened, so a little quiet to start with, but soon filled up. The food was excellent as well as the service. Would definitely recommend and re-visit.
The ambience is so good.
Chicken biryani flavour was good, they only providing boneless chicken in the biryani. Not much affordable a little bit high price compare other kerala restaurant in Leicester. Service is ok.
A nice South Indian and Kerala restaurant in particular. The ambience give a feel like you are in a traditional Homestead. With all symbolize the artefacts and decoration of traditional Kerala house.
The food is excellent with a fair price. The service is excellent.
The experience from booking a table to service and food were exceptional. The booking system is quick and easy and you get a call on the day to confirm. The service is amazing, even when I mispronounced their dishes they recognised them instantly, skirting the awkward pointing at the menu. The food was amazing, so full of flavour and not too hot! I really liked all the little dishes and would recommend to anyone to go try it out for what I'm told is an authentic experience.
A place to fully experience the best of South Indian cuisine. The seafood is exquisite in its taste and presentation. Be prepared to wait for it, however.
Kayal Restaurant is a true culinary gem. The ambience is inviting and sets the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience. The chicken main dish is exceptional, with tender and flavorful meat that leaves a lasting impression. The pineapple kedar ice cream and medu vada are delightful treats that showcase the restaurant's commitment to quality and taste. The staff, particularly Vishwak, provide top-notch service, making every guest feel valued and well taken care of. With a combination of delectable food, a welcoming atmosphere, and attentive staff, Kayal Restaurant is a must-visit for food enthusiasts seeking a truly remarkable dining experience.
Fantastic flavours of Southern India. The Thalia was delicious. The spiced fish soup starter was so tasty and nothing you've had in generic Indian restaurants.
An Indian restaurant that serves beautiful Indian food. The restaurant gives you a traditional atmosphere. The food is excellent. The workers are polite and helpful. I recommend visiting this restaurant.
