We've been coming to Etsu since it opened, and are always delighted with the food and service, which is second to none. I only experienced quality like this in Japan, and nowhere else has come even close to it. The attention to detail is meticulous, they source the very highest quality ingredients to ensure the best dining experience possible. The staff are extremely attentive and caring, and will cater for any special dietary requirements - we are vegan, but we have also taken others with special requirements and it was easy for them to cater for this. We've even taken large groups to Etsu and they handled the orders easily so we all ate together. Fantastic for special occasions.
Really enjoyed this small Japanese restaurant. Menu was simple offering sushi, sashimi, udon dishes and rice dishes. I went for the 12 piece sushi set which cost around £13. It consisted of several maki rolls and nigiri with various fish. It all tasted very fresh. My husband went for chicken fried in breadcrumbs with rice which although looked quite plain it tasted really good and had a really authentic Japanese flavour. Restaurant is small so I would recommend to book. Prices are fairly reasonable.
Craving sushi and a quick lunch, we headed off to Etsu Japanese Restaurant when we arrived in Liverpool. Etsu turned out to be a bit of a find, in terms of food and location. Nestled in the concrete jungle that is Beetham Plaza, there it was… a little oasis of delightful flavours and aromas. We immediately forgot we were in the middle of bustling Liverpool and enjoyed the relaxed ambience. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table at the back of the restaurant by our friendly and helpful waitress.
Amazing sushis ans sashimis. The real taste like in my japanese experience. Rice so easy to eat and savour... Much different from the glue-type we have in Quebec
Definitely the best Japanese food I've had in Liverpool. I've been here several times and Ive not been disappointed yet! Would recommend to anyone that appreciates authentic Japanese food!
Fantastic food, reminded us of our trip to Japan. Staff are all super-friendly. Try the Plum Wine after your meal. Ask them if the have any Green Tea Tiramisu when you book your table. There's pay and display parking on Brunswick St.
Great authentic cooking full of flavour in nice surroundings. Great for lunch when out an around town. Be sure to check out the mixed platters very nice an very reasonably priced.
We eventually settled on the chicken yaki tori with teriyaki sauce, seared sea bass nigiri, a mixed sushi & sashimi set and the special fish of the day which was sword fish.
... was very impressed with my first trip to Etsu and I can assure you it wont be my last.
We had a really pleasant time at this authentic Japanese restaurant. The staff were friendly and service was very good.
We ordered a selection of sharing plates, sushi rolls and sushumi. We were really happy with our dishes.
The interior is nicely designed and laid out and very authentic.
Will definitely come here again when in Liverpool next.
Amazing! Best japanese food we’ve ever had! My kids loved it! Turned out a little expensive since we could not stop eating, but worth every penny! 😂
So good! Staff were wonderful. Food was wonderful. Order the tempura...just perfect. Sashimi was delicious. Nigiri also delicious. Come here if you can!
We tried 4 types of sushi rolls and the avocado maki. The food was really good, the waiters were very friendly and the place was nice decorated, with a lot of elements reminding us of Japan.
My favorite dish was the ebu sushi rolls and the second favorite was the grilled eel sushi roll.
The waiting time to get the food was about 35-40 minutes, be we went at peek hours and the restaurant was full. We were lucky to get a table without reservation.
Excellent Japanese food, great service. Very good experience and all the food was on spot. Will be back soon!
We went to celebrate a birthday. Choose it partially because their social media page has been saying business was slow which made us sad. It was always a nice place, and we had remembered it as packed and thriving. This meal was absolutely amazing and we will continue to go both to "vote with our feet" and to enjoy it whilst the atmosphere is low key and lovely for a quiet meal.
Arrived earlier than our reservation on a rainy Sunday evening which was no problem. Chose the chef's choice mixed sushi plate first and we were delighted! Unlike the chain sushi place nearby, it wasn't only tuna and salmon but also seabream, surf clam, octopus, mackerel, yellowfin tuna and more. All very fresh - perfect. The sushi was presented as an art form, as I remember it from the favourite sushi places I've been - much more like a California Japantown. Edible flowers, lovely fine seaweed. The chef treats it as the delicacy it is which adds to the experience, I think. And, by the way the lovely server who brought it sang a few lines of the birthday song very quietly to us, which was really cute. She could tell my companion would be embarrassed by a fuss. The platter arrived with a single lit birthday candle. Celebratory but not over the top.
After the variety sampler, it was time for each of us to finish with one of our favourites. My companion chose a softshell crab dragon roll which was coated in flying fish roe. Beautifully presented and delicious. I had a simple five pieces of mackerel sashimi presented on a bed of seaweed. The mackerel had some extra prep. I think it was very mildly pickled which was lovely. We shared these as well, but only a little.
The bill was reasonable and there was no "service charge" or suggested tip added to it. We tipped well as we enjoyed it and want it to succeed.
This restaurant is only slightly off the beaten path, and travel from James Street is easy! I highly recommend it. There must be a collosal waste of resources here for them not to compromise on quality when they aren't very busy. I would urge you to go. We will certainly make this a higher priority and go in January. And we'll take advantage of the quiet there until business is booming again.
A final note is that while steak restaurants seem to be the latest trend in Liverpool, a visit to this place reminded me of how lovely it is to dine on a lighter cuisine that's always valued vegetables and fresh fish. No calorie regrets afterwards, no feeling stuffed for hours.
Sushi here is immense and the katsu curry is the best I’ve ever. This restaurant and the employees go above and beyond. Absolutely unreal. And considering the quality, the price is phenomenal.
What a great surprise that was ! I was looking for a good restaurant but the food was even above my expectations. Several options on the menu, we tried 8-9 dishes, all were excellent ! I'm fond of Japanese food and this is clearly one of my best experiences so far. The waitresses were very kind. We had a pleasant moment and I only regret not living in Liverpool for this would definitely be among my top addresses.
One of the few good Japanese restaurants in the North West. The staff are very welcoming and Etsu offers a varied menu of classic Japanese dishes. The food was freshly prepared. Etsu's location is central Liverpool, so easily accessible and the restaurant provides a nice atmosphere, with a small Japanese shop at the back.
Great delicious food, great frienldy staff, service is quick
