We came across this place online, when we were looking for a place to go, and once again, internet recommendations is something millennials can rely on, the service was great, food come very fast, and yet very tasty, beautiful decoration, great cocktails will definitely go back again.
I always enjoy coming to Bar 61, the staff are great fun, the food is delicious and well priced , and it's a lovely atmosphere. Great for families, date nights and get togethers.

The growing opulence of south London has stretched to 'trendy' Streatham with new new-age-, high cost eateries springing up, amongst them is this tapas bar with plenty of back-end seating
This place is delightful. Great atmosphere, excellent (and charming) service, and fantastic food. I can't speak for the a la carte menu (yet), but the tapas is very good, and the waiter helpfully suggested how many dishes was enough so we didn't over order. Incidentally, TimeOut is correct that the ratatouille is a stand-out dish. The sardines also come highly recommended.
Garlic mushrooms were of solid Portobello, properly baked , pimentos pardon delicately spiced with garlic, both the patatas bravas ad chorizo were abundantly cut
For all the pluses in the tapas, the salad was inexplicably flat, properly chilled but not much more, and the patatas braves lacked any spice in the tomato sauce...inexplicable considering the remainder of the tapas rose above the London standard. You must also consider the cost as it is above average but then, considerably so is the quality you might get 3 tapas for under £20.
Good value, too, with tapas for two and a bottle of wine coming to £60, which is pretty respectable by London prices and worth every penny.
A very nice traditional restaurant! Staffs very freindly & polite. Food absolutely delicious, freshly prepared & tasty..... But very highly price!!! Would recommend it as this has become our regular eating out place...
As a local l have visited bar 61 in many occasions always ordered from a la carte menu and i found the food very tasty.staff extremely friendly and hospitable atmosphere and service second to none.i have been with friends as well and they share the same view with me.i recommend this place highly for any occasion.
An absolute gem! Great friendly atmosphere. You might be mistaken for thinking you've been transported to fin de siècle Paris but no you are still in Streatham although we very quickly forgot about that. We started off in the bar and had a few tapas and then moved to the restaurant in the back. My partners grilled sea bass was cooked to perfection and my steak au poivre was simply divine. Finished off with dessert wine and coffee. Wonderful evening! And very reasonably priced. So good to find a traditional family run bar and restaurant in this part of town where standards are so high. We will be back!
Very nice place to eat ,warm welcome at the front door and once your inside you are made to feel at home , the food is good the wine is fantastic and the atmosphere in general is happy and cozy.
Great Friendly Local Bar / Bistro. Very friendly family run Bar that is a bit of a local institution in Streatham Hill, offering 2 experiences, a quiet restaurant area at the rear serving well priced Bistro type food combined with a friendly attentive service with a more lively Bar area at the front serving a good selection of Tapas and snacks. Surprising for the area it has a phenomenally well stocked bar that would not be out of place in Soho, it caters for all tastes, from house whites to Cristal, Bells to Johnny Walker Blue in addition to a good selection of Bourbons, Brandies and premium Vodkas. It also serves some of the best Coffee in South London.
It's slightly faded and eclectic interior decor could probably do with a little updating however it gives it a funny sort of charm. If you are looking for a friendly unpretentious local bar/bistro then you can't go far wrong.
Tasty food, great service. Excellent food and friendly service. It serves a wide selection of Spanish tapas plates and has a cosy feel to the place.
I regularly eat here and take visitors and have not had a bad experience yet. Particularly recommend the ratatouille.
Living near the area, we were intrigued by the great reviews of Bar 61, so we decided that we should give it a try and we were not disappointed. The tapas were delicious and good price / quality but most of all the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and the service was really excellent. This may be my first restaurant review on the site, but it is because I feel it is deserved! We will be back!

My husband ended up finding Bar 61 through google reviews and decided to take me for my birthday dinner. Let me tell you, he couldn’t have picked a better place! Mel and Met are amazing and gave us great personalized service. The food was exquisite!!! The restaurant is so very well decorated and makes you feel right at home. We didn’t just get amazing food at this restaurant? we got an experience and it is one I will treasure very dear to my heart. I recommend this restaurant 10000%! You will not be disappointed.
Dined here for a NYE meal with a friend. The food was mouthwatering and the staff treated us like old friends. Decor was stunning and we felt like we'd been transported abroad for the meal. So glad to have found this gem and will be making it somewhere to return to frequently. The general menu and tapas menu has so much choice which is one of the main reasons we chose to come here. Good food and great service. If you want to be looked after whilst enjoying not-average tapas. Portions are bigger than any others I've come across in all the Spanish restaurants I've been to. Each tapas has a unique, delicious taste and they are fairly-priced. Waiters will take care of you making sure you enjoy the dinner in an old, European style. You forget to be in London where you're just a paying customer. They do care here and want you to come back. Trust me, they succeeded. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. 4 people, 5 tapas, 1 starter, 3 glasses of wine (and liquors kindly on the house): £80. And we left satisfied, looked after and with a big smile. And the ratatouille... oh my!
Just loved this place, the best waiters in London. Great, authentic tapas and a lovely dining room raised at the back. The bar at the front could be anywhere in Espania and we'll be making a thorough exploration of that next time. Will definitely be a next time and can't wait.
Great place for a casual and slightly boozy meal with friends. Had so much fun and such hilarious and attentive staff.
It's been a few years since my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Bar 61 in Brixton...but a great meal and hanging with my man Tony "AL Pacino" was worth it!!
Good place to try some old school cooking. The veal escalope and the sirloin were done to perfection. Amazing stuff, polite and knowledgeable, treating us really good. Served even limoncello and fresh fruits as end of the dinner without us ordering.
Main dishes portions are big so be careful how many starters you’ll order. No speed service, no one will rush you to finish your food, we spend more than 3 hours there, and left with pleasant feelings.
Will visit again in the future.

Wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is of excellent quality as well with the flavours being authentic! Highly recommended if you are in the area and want a Spanish treat!
I've had the tapas here a couple of times now and the dishes served cover most of the "classic" tapas options and are very fresh.
Really good tapas requires good fresh produce and Bar 61 clearly make the effort to cook fresh and source produce from a good market.
The pulpo here is nice, patas bravas are nice and fresh, tortilla is nice as are the sardines.
Also a good range of complementary beers and friendly service.
The interior needs an update but overall it's really good food.
