Nice restaurant with a lovely bar/lounge for pre-lunch/dinner drinks. Drinks were delicious and they have a good wine selection. We chose the 6 course tasting menu which proved to be interestingly different - very well presented and tasty French style but fused with a slight spicy edge hinting at Monica’s New Zealand/Samoa roots. We really enjoyed this understated fusion.
The only drawback was the service. Overall it was good but as we and most of the dining room had the tasting menu, we gradually began to notice that other tables which came in a while after us were catching up and even overtaking us. Between courses 5 and 6 was a 30+ minute wait. We think that the table next to us were accidentally served our last course as they had 3 courses served in that 30+ minute wait, which meant they finished their 6 courses before we did even though they arrived over 30 minutes after us. I had to tell 2 of the waiters that we were getting a bit hungry! Sadly, it meant that we didn’t have time for coffee and petit fours as we were due at the theatre, and so it all became a bit boring due to the wait and then a huge rush.
Food here insanely good, bit on the small side but this is to be expected from a fine dining restaurant.
Couldn’t fault the service and presentation of the table and food presented, was very good and definitely worth every penny.
Atmosphere is perfect for a intimate date with your significant other, probably not a first date though as it might be slightly OTT for this. Place was rather small inside but this added to the ambience and intimacy of the experience.
When I visited around Christmas time they have an amazing Christmas tree 🎄 (see picture) just down the road a few minutes from the restaurant, which is worth a visit if you are around the area around this time of year.
We had a wonderful meal, a truly memorable evening with fabulous dishes (we had the 6 course tasting menu with wine flight) as a treat for my partner's birthday present last year.
For us the highlight was the cannon of lamb, although the Davidstow Cheddar mousse was also exceptional. The wines were unusual and well matched to each dish.
The service was impeccable without being overly attentive, and after our meal we were replete without being stuffed. A perfect balance!
This was our 3rd attempt at booking given the various lockdowns, and it was very much worth waiting for!
Tasting menu experience was great, the staff and service was amazing. They accommodated dietary requirements. Food was good but wasn't overwhelming. Definitely a one-off visit
Exceptional cookery for me. I ordered the scallops to start which had a beautiful balance of flavours, beautiful presentation and my favourite dish of the night. Lobster main was again really well executed though I would say the sauce might have been a very slight touch too acidic, still delicious and would order again. I would say these two dishes are more memorable on my palate than the dishes I had at Gordon Ramsay.
My partner ordered the beef main which he thought was very good though the beef skewer was a bit awkward to eat. Again all delicious.
Desserts were great and the service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is upscale but unpretentious which is exactly what we like.
We had a wonderful evening here to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
The tasting menu with wine pairing was excellent.
Food, wine & staff couldn't have been better.
Hope to come back again.
Had the tasting menu for lunch which was amazing quality and really flavorful. Portion sizes were much larger than other fine dining establishments and the whole experience lasted more than two hours which was lovely as the courses were spaced out enough to enjoy and not rushed. Service was attentive without being overbearing.
Will definitely be returning!
Excellent dining experience with exquisite top quality and inventive dishes. Highly recommend the Lobster Claw.
Went to dinner with some friends. We had the tasting menu, and one of my friends ordered the wine pairing with the menu. Was told the wines were really good, and the sommelier was very knowledgeable in his descriptions of each wine served. Lots of small courses! some it was more presentation than taste. I guess I like spicy food and some courses I found were quite sweet taking for my pallette, even thou were savoury. It's a nice place quite generic/neutral in decor. The experience overall was good, however pricey when you factor in drinks and service charges. A real plus point was there wasn't that rushed feeling that you tend to get in some restaurants. Would I go again, possibly not unless someone else is paying.
