I stopped off here as part of the London Restaurant Festival and I still dream about their crostinis!

With an Aperol Spritz in hand, I munched on a trio of crostinis.

I had the roasted wild mushroom with parsley butter, mackerel and pickled red onions, and gorgonzola with pear, grapes and honey on top of crispy ciabatta bread. They looked too pretty eat, but I tucked in and they were as yummy as they looked. My favourite of the three had to be the gorgonzola with pear, grapes and honey- me and my sweet tooth! All the flavours were perfectly paired and I wouldn’t have minded just spending the afternoon munching on these and chatting over my spritz.

Make do as the Northern Italians and enjoy the same treat- a real delight!

An uncomplicated menu of pronounced northern Italy flavour; an equally concise and decidedly Italian list of wine and drinks; a stylish wood and copper bar that’s as cosy as it is elegant – there’s a lot to love about Augustus Harris, a Venetian inspired bàcaro conveniently set within the heart of Theatreland.

Cicheti, spuntini, crostini … more than cook anything up, the barmen at AH essentially take a few basic ingredients and assemble them into small dishes for snacks and sharing. If that comes across as a disparaging statement, by no means is that the intention. I’ve been craving to return since my visit a couple of weeks back as I found the menu to be an absolute delight.

The key to its yumminess is that the handful of components used are top quality and super delish. Prices are nice too – especially if you can show constraint and avoid a few of the pricier (albeit gorgeous and good value) items. From the spuntini list, I loved the ample serving of stracciatella (£8); the fennel radish and orange salad (£5); and anchovy and butter soldiers (£3). Crostini that did if for me included finocciona salame with gherkin (£4); Gorgonzola with Asian pear, grapes and honey; and a particularly appetising capocollo with artichoke (£4).

Drinks hit the spot too, with no complaints about my Aperol Spritz (£6) or my bottle of crisp lager from 150 year old Piemonte brewery, Birra Menabrea (something that’s not always regularly stocked I was told). Next time, I’m diving into what appears to be a rather well rounded (if Italian only) wine list.

The bar’s named is an homage to Sir Augustus Harris, the 19th Century manager of the Drury Lane Theatre, considered to be the modern Pantomine. I’ll drink (and eat!) to that. If you’re pre or post theatre noshing (or simply keen for a chic place for drinks and nibbles), you’d be wise to drop in here as well.

Awesome hidden gem! I am Venetian, and I felt truly home. Reccomend all cocktails and cured meat board with focaccia to share 🔥

My fiancé and I had our first date here in 2016 and return every year for an anniversary meal. We have always asked to sit at the same table (14) and have always been made to feel welcome, with champagne on arrival during our recent visit. The food here only seems to get better. The ingredients are of such a high quality and perfectly matched. Highly recommend the Dates, Gorgonzola and Pancetta bites. The downstairs restaurant area is so intimate.

Gorgeous little Italian theme wine bar, great selection of wines, cocktails and spirits. The food is perfect when you want a small bite at any time of the day with some gorgeous classic Italian flavours. We went at 9:30pm and they were still happy to serve us. Staff very polite and friendly especially the Italian waitress who was a delightful young lady. Very well done to everyone involved! Happy Christmas!

Ate here as a large group early this year and absolutely loved it, so popped in after the theatre for an early light dinner before getting a train from Euston. 30 min walk to Euston btw, but we are quick walkers! Quick service, sat outside as very hot day and felt to warm inside. Here’s what we had for two - Aperol Spritz - £9 Panini Selection - £9.50 Peperoncini - £6 Prosciutto & Burrata - £14 Grilled Focaccia - £4 Service 12.5% Total - 57.95 The grilled focaccia was suggested as an extra by the server but we would have been fine without it.

A LITTLE PRICEY BUT VERY NICE.... Perfectly located opposite the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, this chic Italian offering, feels part Deli, part wine-bar (but they refer to it as being inspired by the bàcari of Venice). Celebrating it's second year, their offering is authenticate Italian (I took an Italian guest who agreed completely). Sit in the window for the perfect space to do some people watching. The Crostini (Little Toast) selection is excellent although at £12 for 5 pieces is not inexpensive. But the quality of ingredients clearly shine through and the flavours are palate perfect. The Tiramisu was small and not the highlight of the meal, though pleasant enough. But again at £5 for such a small offering, leaning to being overpriced. The freshly squeezed orange juice was perfect and I was happy to pay the £3.50 requested, as too the £2.50 for an extremely decent Cappuccino. If you're looking for a light bite and something with a bit of style and substance pre or post theatre, you probably won't find better than Augustus Harris and if you're already heading to the theatre you probably won't mind the prices either...

We had pre-theatre dinner here and we just really had a wonderful time. The atmosphere is very nice, the staff very friendly and accommodating to gluten-free for my wife. We had wine and 5 small dishes to share and there is a good selection of wine by the glass. The food was absolutely delicious. High quality and great combination of tastes. Very pleasant audience as well. We will definitely come back and would recommend.
